Default A little Sunburned Swordfish tournament

We heard the fish were starting to bite again. The weather looks decent to maybe.
One member caught a 360 lb fish on Saturday.

this tournament is now CANCELLED. or at least postponed until the following weekend.

We need better weather and the fishing to improve too.

Thanks to everyone that supports this tournament for your understanding and patience.

Considering the weather forecast and the slow fishing, it's a good call to postpone it.

Sorry to hear Skip, but appreciate head's up. Honestly a little bit surprised tourney would be called off now due to bite or weather. (2-4' is too rough for our "hardcore" 'old farts'??) j/k !

IE SATURDAY
NORTHWEST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 FEET OR LESS NEAR
SHORE AND UP TO 2 TO 4 FEET IN THE GULF STREAM. INTRACOASTAL WATERS
A light CHOP. CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE DAY.

How in the world anyone can predict what the bite will be on Saturday the 17th is a mystery. The guys up here SLAYED the daytimers last week-end even though bite may have been slow down S etc.

What happened to "every day is a new day". I always heard optimism & positive attitude were crucial. To call it off now because bite was slow past week, and it might be a lili bumpy is "sketchy". (IMHO).

Obviously, you have never been involved in operating a tournament. It takes work (I do not take any money personally) and then it takes boat/anglers with money to make it go. (to name the main parts)

If you have neither, there is no tournament. It guys like you that makes volunteers like me to never bother with this again.

And if your so smart, why dont you run a tournament "up there" where they are biting.

Most people down here, do not like to burn fuel, pay out lots of money for poor fishing and getting there butts kicked by the weather.

Have a great day.

Skip,I have nothing but respect for you and said I was kidding.(sheesh). It's clear you are not having a good day & yes I have been involved with setting up some and even "working" tournaments for over 15 years. I know it is a thankless job with major hassle and little to no pay-back. However, If one comment you don't agree with is enough to make you "hang up" your volunteer hat, I truly apologize.(but there has to be more to it than that.)

If it's low turnout & marginal weather so be it. No reason to be nasty about it!! I was kidding after all the young buck vs Old Fart trash talking & have a good one.

E,
My guess is the forecasted west winds and the corresponding drop in the barometer have more to do with it than the marine conditions. I know we did not plan on fishing for that very reason.

Makes sense, I knew the barometric pressure could be a factor, that plus west usually = bunk from my log books. With some species,(IE wahoo & reef fish)it appears that they chew on the barometric fall (as front approaches) then shut off once pressure drops too low. Wonder if swords do the same & try to feed more aggressively while "getting is good"? Seems like after a couple good cold fronts we tend to get a "push" of new travelers. It would be interesting if we could develop a sword-bite "matrix" that factors in wind, barometer, moon & maybe even tidal influence.

I am personally very glad it has been moved as I will be back from Vegas and will have a chance to get something on the dock.

We do not want to interfere with the Darkside tournament and the boat show is real close too. We will make a decision soon.

Yea i know you can't please everyone but most people in the industry will be setting up or moving in for the boat show the next two weeks. We( team bluelight special ) were planning to fish this weekend but next weekend all the duskys have to be shined up and pretty for the show. I'm sure we will get involved but maybe not to fish . If you need some volunteers skip let me know. Dusky is always willing to help out.

I'll bet we both have some good ones to tell over the year's Vinny.
(when time permits,I have a good one off Bimini in 94 so I probably fall into the "old fart" camp even though I run w some of the "young bucks".

Again, in retrospect me calling Skip's decision "sketchy" was out of line and I apologized,as I was kidding around. The SF club is way cool & the fact he donates his time & energy w little to no profit says a lot.

Interestingly enough I was on the reef on a 1/2 day charter (guided trip) this AM and thought about how little fun it would have been to be daytimin when the wind picked up to 15-20 out of the W/NW.

Good call and as an aside we got some nice muttons (18-22")and some flag YT's as the wind shifted & pressure dropped. Once the wind started honking in earnest bite shut off & drift was frustrating as wind was against the tide.

The clubs tournament is cancelled for this month, even thought the weather window looks good for this weekend. (if prediction holds true)

We encourage everyone to get in some practice and get ready for the "darkside" tournament.

Catch-em-up,
Skip
