I just left Cliff's house. The fish had a 97 inch short length, it ate a balloon bait and they fought it for 4 hrs, the last 30 minutes the drag was at "sunset" to make it in time for weigh in. Congrats to Cliff, Drew, Kenny, Nate and the rest of the crew.

Congrats to Vitamin Sea on that slob! They made it to the weigh in with 9 mins to spare. One more long run from that monster and they would not have made the scales. WTG Drew Haus, Kenny, Nate & crew

We finished 3rd with a 87# fish. He ate the deep tip while moving to put space between us and the Vitamin Sea. We also got two monster sharks and 2 nice little blackfins.

Thanks to Draggin Baits and Doyle for inviting us to fish with them. I had a great time.

If you want to bet money about it being a daytime fish you LOSE. We had a allstar team and probably one of the BEST swordfish anglers on the rod, Kenny Josack. The night was going to be fun if we caught something or not with 8 guys on the boat how can't you have fun. Lines in we dropped to bottom and had hopes for something big. After 40 minutes with no bite we began reeling in a mile of line on the 130, and having 8 guys on the boat didn't hurt. With it getting dark we made the run to were we would start fishing for the night. Nothing for that drift which lasted a hour and a half and left us a long run to our starting point for drift 2. Well the second drift had the same results as the first and it just wasn't happening in the water we were in. With a few of us fishing all day before coming to fish the tournament some crashed inside on the couches and a changing of captains occured this is when it got fun. I suggest to move in a couple of miles and keep drifting north and not run south back to water that had not produced. Well the new captain heads south while Kenny and I thought we were just going to move straight inshore to get lines back in. 10 minutes go by and were like what is going on, thats when we turn inshore and start to head back to the north know I'm really. Turns out their was gear to the south and we weren't going to fish behind a picket fence of gear and cappy made the call to take a nw heading and put them out. With only one other boat within a half mile of us and nobody to the north we put them out. Thirty minutes goes by and i take a seat on the couch when Kenny comes in to give me grive we hear screaming were TIGHT on the bow. Four guys go running up the side thru outrigger and rods in the tower legsonly to fiqure it was the deep jugs bait on the surface. Kenny gets on the rod while i cleared the tip and start screaming for everyone to clear a rod. Boats in gear trying to keep the fish from passing the boat with everyone clearing the cockpit. Game time boys, Kenny's harnessed in Cliffy's on the wheel and we have everthing ready. Backing down for 30 minutes we get close enough to see the light come up to the surface and then head SE into the current back at a couple hundred feet down. Hours have pasted and the fish has taken us into the backing three times and become comfortable down deeeeeeep. 3:30 is when things had to change if we were going to have any chance of making it back to the scales on time. I had not left Kenny's side for the entire fight trying to help in any way, we had atleast 20lbs but it wasn't enough. 3:40 the drag went above strike and we started to see some scope in the line and began getting line back on the reel while coming back. 3:50 and were on top of her and Cliffy marks her on the machine down 400ft. Know she turns with the current and we start using the boat in gear to plane her up. Kenny at full on the drag with the preset even getting a couple of clicks due to him not being able to stop line from coming off the rell with him palming the spool we get her within view. 4:00 she comes to the surface behind the boat for our first look at her and circles down swimming with the current, our crew was ready with every killing device on board. Kenny held the spool while Cliffy pumped ahead gaining with every turn of the prop. 4:03 I grapped the light at the top of the wind-on and pulled leading the fish towards Mike who was ready with the POON. Five pulls and she was their, first the POON then the Flyer then two straight gaffs which one of which she sent flying with a massive swipe of her Bill. 4:09 shes in the boat and Cliify puts the boat in gear towards the cut. Not sure if we are going to make it in time with the biggest fish most of the crew has ever caught would just suck, everyone is still on the brink of exploding with excitment but not yet. 4:50 we clear the cut and are hauling ass towards the no wake when Jeff meets us and gives us the thumbs up that we made it in time. One of the best moments of my fishing career to be a part of such a win. The memory's of Sat night of catching such a big fish with some of my best friends top's my 530lb of 2 years ago. These are the things that will keep bringing us back out to the "DARKSIDE" in search of memory's of that one giant swordfish you caught with good friends. Tight lines

4 hrs is a really long time to be harnessed in to a fish with that much drag. Congrats on getting her to the boat. That must have been incredibly exciting to be a part of.

Congrats to the Vitamin Sea as well as the other two boats that managed to weigh fish.

I remember last year only four fish made it to the scales so not that much difference in numbers there

Default Congratulations Vitamin Sea and the other Swordlorders.

Congratulations Vitamin Sea. Nice fish

Drew, thanks for posting your report. The story sounded just about as exciting as actually being there! But without the wait.

No wake Zone for the next 11 minutes.

Nice Job Drew and the crew of the "VS". We were trying to catch that fish but a big sportsfish kept getting in our way. Although "2nd Chance" was in the shop for new engines, the "Reel Life" was a great host. Team 2nd Chance are fighters ever if that sports fish can lock us in on their radar. Again, Thanks to Captian Mark's Chum, another monster was pulled from the deep. Drew & VS, great job.. see you guys at the next tournment, I will bring a BB guns this time.
