Default 2nd South Texas Sword

On or 2nd try at Swording we got our 2nd fish here in South Texas. It was a pup but thats OK with us at least we caught one. We went 1 for 4 with one of those being a real good run but the hook pulled. Is 15 pounds of drag to much for these guys?????

No way. You can bump it up a notch or two if you like. Seems to be two schools of thought on the drag settings for fighting swordies. I fall into the heavy drag school. If the hookset isn't good I'd rather have it pull early on. Plus I battled my first few fish for an eternity @ 15lbs of drag, and they weren't monsters. 25lbs of drag suits me fine.

You gotta put the heat on them or you will be putting a big fish on a very long leash that you somehow have to retract.

Great work guys. How far offshore and what depths do you guys work?

I fish 13 lbs. of drag at strike and then bump it up to 20 lbs.

Keep up the good work.

Juan

We fish about 70 to 90 NM offshore and the depth is 900 to 1500 feet.
