Default 9/28 daytime report

got a late start (3:00) out of Boca. We dropped 4 times in 1550 -- 1750 east of LHP. We had one on but lost it.... i think.... not really sure

We did witness something strange. as we were dropping our third time, a huge sword is on top 5 feet from our stern. it was about 5:30 -- 6 pm. We did not have a bait or any gear ready and that was the last we saw of him. It was a big fish, very slow moving.

I thought these fish stay down and slowly come up at night. The sun was still way up and this fish was also. Not sure why. Any thoughts?

Capt Ken: you are probably correct. The fish came up chasing the bait from the deep and hung around till our next drop. Thanks.

I wonder if it's wise to stop reeling every 100-200 feet? Let the bait sit for a minute, then continue. That might promote a strike.

Well, swords are known to come to the surface during the daytime and sun themselves. That's how the stick boats get them.

The biggest sword I ever saw was in font of Hillsboro free jumping in 500' of water at noon. The fish was in 600 lb range. The #1 rule to fishing is there aren't any.
