Default More Success for the Daiwa Bull

Well, I like testing my new toys. And my new electric Daiwa Dendoh Tanacom Bull (TB1000) is no exception. I picked it up just before Labor Day weekend, and so far it's brought up a 60lb Misty Grouper, a 5lb Queen Snapper, an 18lb Barrelfish, a dozen Rosies, and now... a 51 inch sword. Certainly not a monster fish, but the reel performed as intended. Coming tight with the push of a lever is pretty neat. The drag is not as smooth as a regular reel, so I didn't crank it up too far. Total fight time was about 20 minutes from 250ft down. I'm fairly certain the reel could tackle a sword up to the mid 60"s.

Yes. From Friday's all-nighter. At 51" it's not a monster by an means, but it was fun to catch it with the power assist. I fished it just like I've always used my deep tip rod. Same rigs, lights, rod, depth, etc... I wasn't using it for deep-drop swording. But that may be in it's future. I did touch-down in 1400ft two trips ago, so I know it can reach bottom on our usual drift.

BTW... the belly was LOADED with medium-sized squid.

All purpose, yep... I tossed out a ballyhoo on the Bull near a pallet today. Quickly added a 6lb mahi to the cooler. Then pulled up 7 more rosies. Them be good ceviché!

Got a dumb question. I went to the Daiwa site, but still confused. Can you use the reel as a conventional reel? For example, use the electric feature only for checking baits, etc.., but when you get a bite, can real any fish up by hand power only?

You are correct... it's a conventional reel with power assist.

Yes, but I think it would still be considered an "electric" reel by IGFA standards.

But honestly, I wouldn't want to use the reel as non-electric. The drag is a bit sticky. Not like a smooth 50-wide. The Daiwa Bull is better suited for normal deep-dropping, not fighting fish that take a lot of drag.

BTW... the Daiwa site sucks for info. I have the reel's instruction manual in PDF format if anyone is interested.
