Default 300 Lb Blue Marlin Caught On The Darkside

Second hand report here :

On August 15th my buddy Rick (lucky hook) and I decided to do a little swordfish trip, it would be the first on my 25' Seacraft. I picked him up at around 4:30 pm and headed toward the MOC. Loaded up the boat and found out we forgot the hydraglow and the big gaff at his house. So without the light and a 2" gaff onboard we headed out of Government Cut.
We stopped at the range marker to get some bait just in case. Ran SE and found some good look water and decided to troll a bit. With no action we moved on, got to the grounds around 7:00 pm and started setting up first was big mama (a Shimano Beast Master 80/130 loaded with 200# test Ande) with a squid at 350', second and third lines went out. Before we could put out our fourth rod big mama bent over and it was on

Ricky started clearing line and jumped behind the wheel. Soon we found out what was pulling out so much drag, to our surprise it was not a shark or a sword it was a BLUE MARLIN. Approximately 1hour and 15 minutes later she was at the boat now is when the fun begins. How do you boat a marlin with a 2" gaff? The answer very carefully. We managed to tail rope her and drag her in through to tuna door.

it was high fives and huggs We danced around the boat like a couple of school girls.

I know I will get flack from some of the members for harvesting a Blue Marlin but this is our fisrt and they sure are gummy. If I have the chance at an other one she will be released to fight an other day.

Estimated weight 317#.

Enjoy the rest of the pics.

Nice fish, the amazing part is that the Beastmaster held together. That is the reel that the drag let go on during our Jurassic fish.

Nice Marlin (though I would've probably released if the fish was not dead. Marlin are notorious for taking dirt naps during long fights, however.)

There have been several caught this year swordfishing. Did she jump? Was the fight deep? What do you guys mean by the Marlin being gummy?

Again congrats, (don't do it again. )

High tides!

Juan

If the fish was of legal size and was eaten then he did nothing wrong to kill it.

There is plenty of marlin meat for sale at fish markets in the US, according to Guy Harvey's TV show the US is the world's largest consumer of marlin meat.

Marlin is sold for consumption in EVERY Country in the World, I know Hawaii still produces a great amount of them and they are sold into the main land.

Stripe Marlin makes excellent sashimi, the meat ranges from white to pink to orange just like our local swords.
