Default Jurrasic Drift Swordfish Pending World Record

I know this is my 1st post but my Dad made me get registered...

It was about 12:40 when I jumped up and grabbed a hold of the rod while the fish was constantly taking line. Since no one else could touch the rod but me, I had to dump the drag just to get it out of the rod holder and into the harness. In the mean time the fish is still running. Once I finally got set in the harness I started working the fish, but really didn’t get anywhere. For me, the stand up harness was difficult to work. I couldn't keep my balance or get a steady rhythm going. So thirty minutes into the fight, both of my legs started to spazz so I really couldn't gain any line. My dad thought it was best to try and move me into the chair. So my dad, Karl and Mitch, without touching the reel, unbuckled me from the harness and I got all set into the fighting chair. I could really feel the difference. I started gaining line and I see the 300' mark on the line, but that’s about all i saw for like thirty minutes. That fish liked where it was and she was not going to move and I could not turn her head.. I saw that 300' mark so many times, I bet I will have bad dreams from it. Well once I got her to the boat the first time and the sword saw the boat, She just took off and I am watching that fish with the green and blue light travel across the surface and I knew she was not going to stop.....but neither was I. After I got her to the boat three times later, the sword did the exact same thing. I remember when the fish was taking line again, Mitch (trying to keep my hopes up) told me that the fish would not have anymore big runs in her but that was wrong . I could tell the fish was getting tired so i was doing short pumps and I brought her all the way back to the boat. In the mean time Karl is behind me talking me through while my dad has the flying gaff in his hands. I see the glow of the light and Mitch grabs the leader then my dad sticks the gaff into her and they pull my first sword into the boat. I was so amazed and happy I started to cry knowing that I pulled in a 155.8 lb female junior world record swordfish. It doesn't get any better than that.

But now I am ready to go again and enter the 200 lb club.

Ash you are great I am glad you took us up on the invite to SFC. I woke up to newspapers calling me asking me about "this Ashley girl." What you did was an amazing accomplishment and you should be proud as there are several who have been fishing for a long time and have not caught a fish that big. I have your trophy and prize, I will drive it up later this week. Hope to get to fish with you some time

You are gonna be defending champ next year, better bring your A-game and watch out for Capt. Ken's Daughter Shana, she isnt playing games

Johnny

Well done, congratulations from the Bahamas. I am still trying to find swordfish here and maybe one day my sons too will be as blessed as you are.

Easy tiger, most of the boats out there don't have the option of a fighting chair. As much as I've been singing Ashley's praises, I don't see her closing the deal fighting it stand-up.
