Default last night

Took my friend Kevin Clark from Colorado for his first sword trip. Had 4 squids out and marked wads of bait. Caught a stinger of tinkers and put one down on the tip rod at 125ft. 5 minutes later the tip rod twitches We come tight and its on. Coming straight to the boat like a rat. I have tagstick in hand we saw the fish and it saw us.HOLY SH- T A SLOB. Down with the tagstick out with the gaff. That first run dumped half of the 80.An hour later its running on top. we are chasing the lightstick. Kevin is about to die. The fish gets tailwrapped drag it in backwards. A fat 78" weighed 210lbs. at LHP Marina. Oh yeah, when we were clearing the other lines to go after this one, I hook another fish around 100lbs. right at the boat. Starts going right for kevins line. Had a very inexperienced crew. Decided it was best to just get Kevins fish. I pushed up the drag and pulled the hook on the smaller fish. Kevin is a marine artist he makes beautiful lamps and sculptures. Go by Tommy Greens he will show you. I would'nt be surprised if Swordfish art is next!!

Damn, Im sitting in the liabrary and take a quick study break to see if Im missing anything off shore and All I read about is how many huge fish are being caught right now. Great job guys.

It seems like 200 plus is the rule right now and not the exception. Drew getting 5 over two hundred in 5 weeks is unbelievable, an 83 inch in 20 minutes...wow! Did you hit him with the harpoon while he was green, or just put a lot of pressure on him?

School Sux...but it will payoff.

My time is very limited but if these reports continue Im going to have to blow off work and do some fishing. I hope it lays down this weekend [-o<... but it probably won't.

Bullfighter it was lots of drag and the fact that it was tail hooked was the reason we got her so quick. I haven't done anything differant this year than in past years so i quess its just been luck. To answer your question i just gaffed her due to the fact she popped to the surface with her "PECS UP" dead.

Drew, Ive caught some nice fish that don't fight and come up dead pretty quick (even if hooked in the corner of the mouth) while others fight like hell, it doesn't seem to correspond to the size of the fish, I wonder what the difference is.

Do you think it could have something to do with the sex of the fish? I think males tend to fight harder than females but this is just a hypothesis. Was your fish a male or a female? I know the females tend to be larger, with the hump in the tale, but the skinny males fight hard from my experience.

What do you guys think?

A true 25lbs of drag takes 2 hands to pull off of the reel from my experience. With the fish taking us to a half spool it had alot of drag on it and being pulled backwards = DEAD. Males and Females fighting harding than one or the other i think all depends on the fish.
