We finally got some good weather and made our first trip of the year, after a long learning curve of 1 for 13 last year it was time to get a fish in the box. We headed out about 70 mi but the water just wasn't right so at 2:00 am we moved another 12 miles out and it wasn't long befor we hade one come up to the boat and 10 min later the 200 wen't off, 15 min later fish was in the box and a couple of very happy anglers.
Thanks goes out to tek and all you FLA folks for all your help, And hopefully I can get one of those official CONO!!! replys to one of my posts (always wanted one of those, I think). |

Coņo, un pes Espada, que Bueno! Have a Mojito or two or 3 or 4 and for the entire team too. Good job on finding the swordfish off the coast of Texas. You, da man. Ya Mon! (Nowhere else but Texas is what I've heard before.) When you go out that far offshore in GOM, do you pick up a Roffer's report so you have some clue about the currents and water temps. ? Next time you will have to set your sights on two in the boat. Are you catching anything else offshore now? P.S. - Please don't forget to report your HMS required landings: we need the numbers for the swordfish landed in the USA. Last edited by RiskTaker : 05-13-2007 at 10:44 PM. |

here are some more pics. WE finally put one in the boat. It was trying as we made the desc. to leave the tuna alone and concentrate on swords after 5 hours of nothing, sure enough once we found the clean water, and the moon came up, we were on.

And someone told me that there were only steers and queers in Texas, I was never told there were swordfish also. Great job

You should check out the night time trolling techniques that a few people are deploying around here: there are even a few forum posts about it. Not to suggest you do not drift fish but to add it to your bag of tricks. I would suspect that method could work in your favor if you're looking for a place to drift fish. By trolling you could cover some area at a moderate pace, that otherwise would take you a long time to fish by drifting or a zone that you may have just passed on by. If you touch base with Alan Wardle of Bahamaslures.com, he can get a couple nice ones to you, made especially for nighttime swordfishing. I'm sure there are several other brand names out there just for the same purpose. I just so happen to have a more familiar connection with his stuff. Good luck on your next trip. Be be warned of the purple fever: once you've got it, it's hard to shake it.

There it is!!!
I always wanted one of those from the offiial distributor of CONO!!!Risktaker, Thanks for that advice, I have alot of areas to cover and we are pretty much alone out there in my little 24 footer so covering some water sounds like the thing to do and we will sure give it a try. |

Way to go guys! The run you guys made is incredible and proves that you guys are hard core for sure! We have is so easy here as compared to the crews in the gulf or the guys in the NE.
Congrats on putting in your time and making it pay off with a nice fish. I'm about to go smoke a cigar to celebrate for you both! Way to go... now go do it again and don't forget to help the next guy get his feet wet ![]() -Tek |
