The window of opportunity opened last night with perfect weather. Jason called to see if we could get some blood on his brand spanking new Jupiter 29. It was Jason first swordfish adventure. He does a lot of fishing, just not a swordy yet.
It was a smooth and quick ride out of Boynton. Set up off N. MIA on the 49.5 as the sun was setting and the waiting game was on. J had all new electronics including radar, so we weren’t paying attention when I noticed the deep deep started to get some unusual scope to it. It was about 10 PM. No clicks just scope. I jumped on it and started to reel, bump, bump, reel, reel, bump, bump, reel, wait, reel, wait, NADA. I told J “defiantly a swordy.” The bait was slurped when it came up. Put another on and put it back to the same depth, and started to check the other baits. Nothing, they all looked good. Turned on the radio to hear Catching check in with everyone. Sounded slow. Thought I heard of 2 fish caught, and the bouy guys said they had 12 out and only one fish. Oh well, you know how it goes, all the baits are looking good and the weather was perfect, tunes were jamming again we’re in for the duration. At midnight as J was lying down to crash the 100’ Squid gets slammed. This swordy was freight training as I eased up the drag to 25’. The fish went through 1/2 of the spool of the Penn Int. 50SW before it turned. Then J, all harnessed in went to work stand up. He had it to the side in 30 min. The typical cluster F as she swam around the light and sea anchor, finally got a poon shot before it turned to sh!t. It sure helps to have more than 2 crew onboard but sure is fun. The fish was a stocky 55 incher and Jason’s first swordy. Welcome to the Darkside Jason.

i was out there last night with jared. we pretty much trolled/runandgun for 6 hrs towards our drift start. not 1 dolphin, wahoo or nothing, no bites, no birds, no floating shit. we set up our drift on the 49.9 and we drifted for 5 hrs from ft lauderdale back to boyton beach with out 1 single slash bait or strike or anything. radio was pretty dead also, heard 2 fish get caught and thats it. we then headed to the marina, slept for 4hrs in the truck. went out for more trolling but stayed in shallower. here was the result...
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/DSC03200.jpg we went 1/3 on wahoo, caught that 1st one. had another wack the trolling cigar. had another one wack the cigar then the bait. one of the hits on the cigar almost broke the cable, its hanging by 2 strands. anyways, 1 hoo. no one was catching dolphin up north. everyone was asking where are the fish lol? beats me
