Wednesday we went 1-1 with a 120 fish, Thursday night 3-3 before 8:00 and went in early and last night 2-2 with one released. Last night our keeper fish broke the rod at the butt, I had to pump the fish as my client got coached by CHUMMINWITHCHUNK to crank as I made progress. I took Joe along the last 2 nights and had a good time working with him. Not by choice but I have to go out again tonight as last nights clients wants to go Sailfishing and back to the Sword grounds tonight. The fish are eating just about everything, we found Tinkers, Squids, even a small Dolphin in ones stomach. We caught one last night on a Boston Mackeral I got from LMR that Joe put a nice rig to.

Fish wasn't big, 90 most. Fished a double yesterday, Sail/ Sword combo and caught a Wahoo on the reef about 70 pounds then went 1-4 on the Swords w/ another 90 lb fish.

Inspector and I went out fishing Saturday afternoon and stayed around for a sundown swordfish set. Around 7 p.m. the far balloon rod starts pulling. About an hour later we land a fish that measures 54". That was a lucky catch because he was hooked in the soft skin between the lower jaw. It took us 3 tries to get a gaff hook in because he kept his tail to the boat. At least I backed off the drag a little when he was at the boat, which may have helped to keep the hook from pulling through. After the fish settled down, the hook was easily removed.
About 8:45 another fish-on, which was smaller, so we release that fish. At that point we call it a night, and head back to PE at a slower pace while riding the waves from the NW. Heard of some other good action on the VHF but was too keeping busy tending the lines to stop and talk. Today, I am quite sore all over: a long day of fishing, reeling in two fish, running around the boat and trying to hang on in bouncy seas, but at least no involuntary chummin. A weekend warriors delight! Still dreamin about having the luck , like Kevin K, about hooking into that much larger fish. Good job Kevin! Cary and Chummin too. Man, Inspector is on a roll! Everytime he goes fishing he catches at least one swordfish (at least so far): it is good to have fishing buddies with luck like that. |
