Went out of P.E. last night and was set up at about 25-58 and 79-50 just before sunset for our fisrt drift. Lots of people had the same weather forecast and there was plenty of company. The drift was about 352 degrees. By the time we got to around the 26-02 line we were covered with tinker mackerel. the most I have seen this season. We did two more drifts after this at various depths with no luck. Not even a sniff. Some boats out had great nights and I think there where some very nice fish boated. I look forward to hearing some good reports and seeing the pictures.
Just an off night for us, but we'll be back at it in a couple days ( weather permitting) Nights like this really make you started to think way to much about technique. I know our set-up works, just got to stick with it.

Hey 3senough:
Were you chumming to get all of those tinkers around? Or were they just there. I have never tried to catch these with a cast net. What is the most effective way to catch these? Sabiki or netting. Good luck the next time you get out. |

Red Hot for our crew last night. We went 2 for 4 with our big fish going 79". Only had baits in the water for 2 hours before hooking big fish that took 4 hours. Good luck to everyone going tonight.

Good job Darkside getting the fish. Heard you on the radio a few times. It was hard listening to the radio with all the great reports while we were trying to make something happen.
Risk Taker, No chum last night, the tinkers slowly came little by little. At first they where pretty small ( about 4-5 inches). By the time they where thick we were getting them around 12 to 14 inches. We had the sounder set at 100ft and at times it was solid red under the boat. They would come and go on the sounder as they swam around the boat. We could easily see them in the water, but I'm not sure we could have netted them. It was way too easy to sabiki them with the #14. Full hooks on every drop. We only found the tinkers on the shallow side of the fifty last night. Tried a deeper drift with no sign. Tried a shallower drift again later on and had a few tinkers around the boat, but not like we did on earlier drifts.

Drew we were listening to the play by play action on your boat. Congradulations go out to U, Cliff and Sylvio. Pumpkineater was RED HOT as well last night, every time he set up he got a fish.
We went 1/2, palm beach release on a pup. He may have been legal no biggie. But Bullfight almost got into the 200lb+ club again last night. I was up in the bow of the Blue Boat and we see a 200lb+,Swordie swimming right on the edge of our light towards our short bait. He was a beast, Capt Ken reels up one of the tip rods and our 300 foot bait goes off and keeps going, going and going. Bullfighter is on the rod and we are down to less then 1/4 of a spool on 16#'s of drag, the fish is still going, so kenning starts the engine to give chase and the hook pulls. Chit, 5-10 mins of reel screeming action. John(Bullfighter) has the long job of reeling in all the line, when we got the leader to the boat we found out that we must have wrapped the fish. the leader was all twisted. We ran south reset, drifted till 1:30a.m, the seas kept getting nastier, so we called it a night. Capt. Mark, thanks for the chum as always we get fish when we use it. In my opinion "IT IS THE BEST CHUM AROUND." |
