Default Jupiter Swordin 2/21

Left the Inlet about 5:30 and headed south. Got to our spot of PB and put the spread out just after sunset. I believe it was 1400ft. Hour goes by and we check the baits. Tip rod and long jug baits are slashed, no one inside of us is doing anything so we continue the drift. Get reset and wait. Adam gets up and starts creeping the 150' bait down just enough that when the boat rocks line comes off a little. Does this for about 10 minutes when we realize that line is now coming steadily off, but very slowly. Bump the drag just a bit and still comes off. Now the drag is really coming off and Adam puts it at almost to strike and gets tight.
Look up and there are a bunch of lights on the water. Jugs and LP's everywhere. Tangles too. Look at the long jug and there is a light right next to it so I start winding on that while my friend Zach is clearing rods. I get tight too and we are on a double header. Adam's fish gets tangled with the short balloon (dang tele wire got wrapped around somehow) and my fish is going North. Get my fish almost to the boat and the hooks pull. No worries, we still have a fish on. Battle the fish for what I'm guessing 15 minutes and get it up to the boat and runs away on the surface splashing (I love it when that happens ). Circles back around and I grab the leader. Should of thrown the harpoon, but I decided to try and bill the fish. Grab the leader and right when I touch it the hook pulls. Heart BREAKER!

I think the hook was in the fishes bill and when I pulled harder than the drag, the hook tilted and slid out of the bill. Oh well, it was a release, I'd say around 50". Fun night on the water, thanks Adam

Good Talking to you out there E$, hope you guys found the fish. They caught something really cool

Lesson learned - ALWAYS HAVE THE POON RIGGED AND READY!

Adam on the fish

The only picture I got of the fish sort of

BTW, Tek I love the new light

Gaffs were ready. I felt that the fish didn't look legal and I wanted to bill it. As soon as it got much closer I realized it was legal and should of had the poon in it.

Definately the right thing to do. Many people get so ahead of themselves that they stick the fish first and ask questions later. Kudos to you bro.

Hey PJ, at least you got a good look.

Broadbill, That's funny. Beerman has been telling me that water up N has been dirty.

"Nothing Drift" has certainly been living up to it's name
(Only 3 pups in last 5 trips.)

I think it is an established fact swordfish are seldom encountered north of Boca. In fact the fishery could best be described as non-existant.

Good job PJ, I would rather be sure and pull hooks than stick small fish any day of the week.

Much better off to not use the harpoon on a small fish and let it go (on purpose or not) to grow up. While 50" would be legal, it is certainly better to catch it in 3 months when it is 60"
