Default New Lattitude's Broadbill report

Earlier this week Andy Lightfoot chartered out my boat for a night of Swordfishing. I called Steve (Pumpkineater) to come along and help us out. We caught plenty of live bait with a few Rainbow runners to sweeten the pot and we were off to the canyons.

Our guests were Salmon fishermen from Ohio so they were ready to get in on some heavier action. Our first fish came on the deep rod bait but pulled the hook within 5 minutes. Now the guys new what to expect and how fast to react to the next bite. The next fish we had a good head start on when I noticed the rod slightly bending foward and sticking that way. Andy jumped on that rod, got tight right away and caught his first Swordfish within 15 minutes. The fish was over 50 inches so they opted to keep it.

Our next fish came on the deep rod again and this time the anglers were ready. Andy's friend jumped on the rod and new what to do. He stayed tight the entire time and finally got the fish to the boat. This one was double the size and wasn't even hooked. The leader had gagged him by going through his mouth and then behind his head where the hook grabbed the leader and cinched down tight behind the dorsal fin. We also noticed that the leader had kept the gill plates from opening causing the fish to soffacate.

The weather seems to be clearing up for this coming week. We are reserved for 5 nights, I hope we get to fish them all.
