Default 1/31/07 1 for 2 [@63 incher]...almost didnt make it home

so i have been looking for a ride tonight for a while now and finally i was supposed to go out on my buddy marshal's boat. his boat is a cuddy cabin and NOT set up for swording so i wanst planing on a productive night, i just wanted to get out there and soak some baits. but then long story short that fell threw.
Instead bluewater25, my usual fishing partner whos wife is pregnant, actually got last minute clearance to go tonight from the wife. BUT only if he goes to church on sunday morning (no sseriously im not joking that was the deal!!!!) (i think maybe for two weeks in a row also) [hey when they are pregnant they hold they ]
so we ended up heading out on his boat. went 1 for 2. the one we lost ended up breaking off our whole rig (wind-on, lp, hook like and sinker.....about $100 worth off shit just gone...but hey we bought it to use not to look at right????). it hit a 300ft bait on a full moon which makes perfect sense to everything that i have read.
the one we landed hit the 50 ft TIP rod ON A FULL MOON, with a hydraglow light on which goes against everything i have read, and experianced!!!
I could tell this fish was either really big or foul hooked, by the way it was fighting. it took a long time at @ 1 hour 15 min to get it into the boat because it turns out it was about a 63 inch fish that was foul hooked through the dorsal fin, then bill wrapped. so i finally get the fish up to the boat, after several times of him deciding he didnt "like the color of our boat", or something like that!!!!, and jake, bluewater, sticks him with the dart. Nice looking dart shot i i must add!!!
so we get the fish in the boat and clean up and so on and so on getting ready to run in and i go to start the motor and NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!!
so the boat, which is brand new, wouldnt start, tried changing batteries and all that good stuff. even tried jumping from one battery to the other, and it still wouldnt start. called sea tow (because no one would come back to us on 72). from there on it was just a waiting game untill sea tow showed up and jumped us...but that didnt go very smooth either, maybe bluewater will explain since its his boat .....this ordeal ended up taking probably over two hours all in all so. what started out as an early night, the fish was in the boat by @9:15, turned into a REALLY late night. hence while i am writing this at 6:30 in the MORNING......WELL THAT AND I HAVE MORE TO DO...because i can and i dont have anything to do tomorrow..

bluewater has the pics and should put them up tomorrow at some point.

OH THE FISH ALSO HAD A LANCET FISH (WHICH IS THE FIRST ONE WE HAVE ever SEEN) IT ALSO HAD WHAT I THINK WAS TWO MORE LANTERN FISH....PICS TO COME OF THOSE ALSO

forgive me if this post is a little sloppy as it is 7:00 in the morning and i havent gone to bed yet

The light is all personal preference I have determined.
Doesn't seem to make a bit of diff either way going by all the stories on here.

Ps.. I'm now looking at Sat nite instead of Friday.

Glad you fellas made it back Congrats on the nice fish. Sounds a little light on the weight ( was it a skinny fish? ). Know that feeling when she doesn't crank....Makes your butt pucker

We had a VERY similar experience a couple of weeks ago. . . pucker factor was definitely in full effect! We actually boated two fish (48" & 62") and released another two while waiting for Towboats US. If you're going to be drifting, you might as well have some baits out We can laugh about it now, but definitely not a good feeling when she won't start

Man Jason, you're buddy isn't having much luk with his new ride . Sorry to hear about the troubles, but at least you got one and came home safely!

And that's why we leave the engines ON.

I did hear of Bluewaters recently having some ignition switch problems. Maybe that's the culprit?

yea i agree the light doent matter too much. we caught fish with it and with out it.
my point was that i have always read and experienced that on a night with a full moon they stay deep cause the bright light from the moon hurts their eyes....needless to say i dont think i agree with that anymore.

im just now getting up it is 5:00 PM

yea why we were waiting for sea tow i kept saying we should put a spread back out, since we were drifting anyway, but it was decided not to

we used the scale at light house point and i dont know how accurate it is. the fish was 63.5 X 39 (which lets me know that we messed up the girth measurement on the 65" we got last week cause that fish was way fatter than this one. i think that the 65" from last week was about 160
(63.5 X 39 X39)/800= 120.73 lbs so the formula is in concurrence with the scale

i will proably get ripped for this but i think people are quick to say there fish weighs alot more than it does cause they have never actually weighed one. such as the "200 # sword caught on catch my drift" if that fish was 200 lbs then our 65" one last week was like 250#..........BUT IT WASNT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT!!

When I go on a long trip out ..Since i`m in a 16ft`er I carry my battery pack that has jumpers on it ... I know it`s a pain to carry around but it will get you started ... I keep it in the car and helped a lot of people who need a jump on the boat docks ...... it run s about 70 bucks in the store,,,at least you got a nice sword for your trouble ...

these fish sun themselves during the day in New England and California so forget about light hurting their eyes. The biggest one I saw, approx. 600lbs was in 500' of hillsboro freejumping at 11:30 am 20' off the bow. The #1 rule of fishing is there are none.

here are the pics of last night fish

still dont know the problems with the boat, the batts are only 4 months old. sea tow had a portable charger but it did nothin. we had to run jumpers from sea tow to us. the motor finally cranked it was a tense moment for me. After last night I am going to buy a hand held gps. kink of scary when the batteries are show shot the spreader would barely come on. With out a back up powered hand held and gps you are sol The sea tow bill was $550. the $150 I spent for a membership apyed for itself 4X. Best investment possible. Also the boat has 3 batts with an inboard 3 bank charger that is always plugged in. I am baffled why all 3 bats were toast. I will report back when the issue is resolved.

Great Fish, hopefully mine will come tommorow nite! not to be an ass, but you should invest in a lil bit larger knife to avoid butchering that filet. Nothing makes me more than to see a nice filet butcherd with a knife too small. We use a 18" blade

I've caught one or two markers. Here is a rule of thumb: if it's not over 70 inches, it does not weigh over 200lbs.
