the weired thing was he hadnt moved an inch in like 2-3 min already mostly with the gills out of the water so we thought it was already done for. like i said we pulled it half way up then droped it back in and it did not move. i think it was like a last dying effort to get revenge
but we showed her wsup
do fish act dead like that for long periods (well relatively speaking) and then all of a sudden seem to come back to life and start slashing around?

I've done this with swords going apeshit on me before. It worked very well, and we discovered it by accident.

Short story: Caught a tiny pup to release after a 1 minute fight. My good buddy (aka my 2nd mate) pulled him over the rail only to have him go berserk. When he got a hold on the now-partially-smashed bill, he pushed the little runt into the corner and bent him over like shown in the photo. It was like you unplugged the fish. He just laid there while we removed the hook. As soon as we unbent him he was all wiggly again and my buddy gave him a long distance thrown release overboard.

We figured we'd use the same "bend his ass in half" technique on a larger fish on a later trip and it worked like a charm. That's how we do it now.

On a dead fish just watch the fins and color. If the fins are still moving a little watch out.If they still have good color they can still go off.Another trick is to lay there head against the side of the boat with the bill sticking up.This is after the bend move.If they do start to move the bill is easy to grab without leaning over the fish or having it wack the deck or you.
