Default Sword Report 1/18

Went out thursday night on my boat and took my old inshore fishing buddies. Was treated to a night of crazy action. In the first 2 hours we went 3/5 keeping the first and releasing the other 2 which were also legal in hopes for bigger fish. That first fish took the long jug down and didn't come tight but followed the retrieve all the way up and then was hand fed and decked!!! 2 hours went by with nada. One of the guys on the boat was sick, the other was tired (it was now 11:15) so in an effort to show some mercy I said we could go home. I told the "tired guy" to start reelin the short jug (instead of the usual first rod in(tip rod). he takes 10 cranks and lo and behold....the tip rod's disco comes darting towards the top, streaks across to the front, jumps (nice big fish) comes back and heads under the boat to the other side, jumps on that side of the boat, comes back and settles in. My boy that went 0/3 gets a 4th shot as I hand the rod to him (I felt fairly sure this fish was NOT coming off) As I'm coaching him I notice the mid jug heading downtown.......ran over and set the hook and that fish is tight. I took about 20 cranks to secure him and gave that rod to my other buddy and told him to just try and stay tight without bringing him in. Head back over to the biggun and my boy is pooped so we play musical rods. I put the pooped guy on the other rod to hold and maintain fish which is out a way on the starboard side and give "sick boy the big fish. about 10 mins later big fish is in sight but............other fish coming to the boat and slack so we have to reel that one in to get tight and now big fish is circling and inevitably drags other fish with float and intertwinds a bunch of times.@#$%^ okay just a matter of time till they both go snip. i start coaching my boy on the big fish (who is now reeling in 2 to try and get the fish within reach and leave the other rod in freespool. I make the decision to hand line in the big fish and get em within reach and sink the hook!!!!!!! Over the rail he comes along with a huge mess. I feel the other line and other fish is still there??????????? Figured for sure it was cut off. As I go through the mess while keeping a loose hold on the main line I figure there is NO way to untangle.Quick thinking, I summoned my crimpers and cut the ll clip off the jug, wiggled some free then cut the snap swivel from other rod off and a few minutes later I get the mess out!!! (the whole time(which was at least 10 minutes) other fish just sitting there allowing me to do all this "crazy") We reel through the mess and fish is tight!!! I took the rod (as the other two guys are shot after doing a phenomenal job of working as a team) and fish realizes he was still hooked and starts peeling. 15 minutes later he's in the boat. Fish tapped out at 59" and 66" respectively. It was nothing short of a miracle that one came in, let alone both. That was my personal best. cleaned da boat and headed homejust shy of 1am.

Take it easy on Carbon copy. What if those fish were the crews first ever? I'm sure that isn't a regular practice. I took out a charter recently and it was the parties first time ever fishing. By the time they put their feet back on the dock they became fisherman. They caught almost a dozen runners and then reeled in 3 Swordfish almost back to back. It was an amazing night for Father and Son.
