Default Liquid Gold Miami Swordfishing Report 1/23

Last night I had the Jorge Lopez charter out on his own boat, a 60' Bertram. In typical Miami fashion we arrived slightly late to the grounds but quickly got the spread out and we were fishing by 6:30! We were greeted with SLICK calm conditions...about 10 minutes after setting up the long balloon tips over and with a few cracks we are tight and have a nice fish peeling line of an 80! While getting set up in the harness the fish turned to the boat and slack was created giving the fish its freedom! We finished our drift and reset around 730. Again about 10 minutes after the spread is out the long balloon is still visible but the rod was just slightly hunched over...Fish on! This time to crew snaps into action getting Don in the harness. First the fish is steadily comming to the boat and we get the light and weight off the line and see we have a nice fatty on, but then she takes off for the bottom and makes a nice 200yd run. It was pretty much over after that and I planted the poon in the fish about 15 minutes later! She taped out at 62" and length/girth measurment puts her just above 130...Beautiful night and we headed home!
