Broadbill 300+ Jackolantern

While you guyswere watching the wind blow saying it's tough rough the crew and I sadled up and headed out. The wetaer wasn't bad just big roolers out there. We deploy baits the second bait goes out 150' down 75 yards from the boat we put the rod down bait up the third rod and the float goes under. So we put the hooks to the fish rod bends no drag. We're reeling in the fish steady getting line every time the boat rocks no runoffs, so we are thinking 70 pound fish. we get the leader the rod man backs out of the way. Fishing with no light in the water. the leader guy goes I think there's two I said I don't think so, Satding there with straight gaff in hand the fish breakes the water. I say hell with the gaff get the harpoon. With no time to make the switch and it was now or maybe never so on this big ass green fish with 10 minute fight I sink the gaff. Then the fun begins with this monster on the end of the gaff I'm yelling for the rod man to get another gaff he still not seeing the fish couldn't understand the big deal, taking his time. He finaly get to the side of the boat and says holly shit, and sinks the second gaff. It took us about 15 min to get the fish to settle down enough to bring him in the boat. With fish in the boat by 7 pm we reset drift till 10 with no other hits.

i beleave this will be a good fish for the sword light.

Awesome fish!

Does the Jackolantern have anything to do with anything? And what were the seas like?

Thanks

WTG team Seems like multiple gaff battles are a trend lately. With that kind of blood fest we may hear of some mako hook-ups soon

Great catch BDog! ...but it's making me a bit depressed. We were on the water at the crack of dawn Saturday, and realized we shoulda gone out the night before.
