talked to chris and told him i had friday night off cause the girlfriend had plans. never do i get to go fishin' on a friday so i was feeling good. got to the boat at 4:00 pm, splashed it at 5:00 pm, was heading out haulover at 5:30. got about 10 off and the swells in the stream were big... lots of chop mixed in. we stopped to get an idea of how it would be if we kept going to the 50. just then a rogue wave crashes into the transom and fills the parker with enough water to float my SSI-200. we called it, turned and headed back west to haulover. got inshore to about XXX' (thanks dan) of water and out of the stream. the waves were 1/4 what they were off shore. drifted for about 5 minuets and spotted a false bottom on the furuno. is that bait or a thermocline. it moved up and down between 125' and 80' of water. chris says lets put a bait out and try to catch a shark or something. so with the new found rigging skills from capt ollie on the 201 trip, bing-bang-boom a squid was on its way down to the marker. let it sit, nothing, dropped it to 200'... nothing, reeled it back to the surface and dropped it to 100' again... let it sit... went to see the depth of the bait and chris says were getting slammed. locked up and started reeling like hell. got tight, looked at chris and he was already harnessed up. he wanted to fight it from the stand-up so we strapped him in. i was driving the boat to keep the fish off the prop. 15# of drag, a few good runs and were convinced it's a shark or tuna. the lp comes and goes 2 ot 3 times until finally i see something glowing like a ghost... damm its a sword.. leader him up, plant the flyer and haul him in. 55+" fatty. all this in sight of haulover inlet. no pics, i left the camera at work. (was taking pics of the jeep we tinted for ricky williams). chris got some from his camera phone. he will post them later. in the shower at 9:30... how cool is that. Ray

Thats awesome. Now you have me thinking. Why run to the stream? I know the canyons and up swells and all that but if you can pick em up in shallower water. Thats the second sword I have heard of caught in close to haulover. Any opinions?

The think there are far more fish in the stream moving, but They move in and out IMO. They follow the bait I think. And if ythe bait is holding on the isdie edge of the stream, there will be fish there! That's just my thoughts!!!!
Nice work!!!!

Pretty wild !! Congrats Ray, and Chris. Makes sense to me that they would come in chasin bait or whatever. Especially round the inlet. Only two whites I've caught were in close around the mouth of Boynton. Anyhow thats killer fo shure.

my buddy caught on in 600 feet off north miami last year also at night in a similar situation. I am convinced we are passing up some good grounds, but we'll never know for sure unless we try! great sword report

Since I have been catching them for the last 4 months ... everyone that has tasted tiles is asking me for more ... I like it better then Dolphin ! .. it comes from cold Deep water ... so the meat is nice and white ... I let it sit in the frig for 24 hrs ... then cook it ... also rose fish and snowie grouper are just as good !
