Default Thursday night-Dec. 2

I noticed last night that many of the boats were set up very deep. Much further than usual. We set up just to the west of the fleet and our drift was out. We finally pulled up and move in when we got near the 47 line and had no action.

We moved back in a ways and went 1/1 with my buddy getting his first after two years of trying!. Not a huge fish but very satisfying.

So what was the reason for everybody being that deep?

1. was it my imagination
2. did that many boats misjudge the drift
3. is that where the big fish hang out
4. no answer- just one of those nights

I don't think many of the guys are going to reply to this thread.. You know how secretive we all are when it comes to swordfishing.

But I will say that the 50 line gets good pressure from most of us and there is no reason to hug it every night unless you are a firm believer that the fish pile up on the hills and stuff.

Bottom line is you need to experiment if you are looking for that 200+ plus beast... She might be 100ft deep but all over the place.

Heard and experienced the bite was in deeper water about two weeks back at the same time when the bite was from sundown to 8:30.

Hey if everybody is 49 or less, enjoy to tranquility on the 50. But if the reports are happening and you are less than successful, don't be embarrassed to join the pod.

Hey, what happened on Friday night?

i just compiled all my bites from the past yr of my GPS to a chart, all but 2 of 18+ were within 1 square mi of each other... 2 within 100 yds a month later. All inside the 49 between 49.15 and 49.8 or so. Ive sen people out that far on nights that i was out there, while picking them up "inside," but im a strong beleaver in if there biting there everwere, that tail isnt just back there to look pretty.

I try to get out about once a week as weather and schedules permit and over the last three years we have developed a good list of productive areas we like to fish. I was not looking for any secrets, it was just an observation of a change in the way the fleet was set up on that particular night. I was just curious if there where any opinions as to why.

I have had success fishing both deep and shallow, but looking at my log I do see a trend. the fish do seem to occupy some specific areas. The challenge is locating them.

Bobby Boyle gave me a tip once to set my depth find to read down to 200ft. Find the bait and you'll find the fish...
