Default Catch My Drift Friday Night Open Boat Trip 1/5/07

It was an awesome week this Friday night on the Catch My Drift. We went out on our Open Boat Friday Night Swordfishing Trip as usual. It was a beautiful night, nice breeze and the weather couldn't have been better. Early on in the night we catch a little swordfish, an inch under legal size. Threw that one back and put the baits back out for another set. One of our regulars gets the bite, a big one. Fish made some decent runs but when it came up, we had no idea it was as big as it was. Grabbed the leader for the first time, the fish takes off. the second time we got the leader we harpooned him, perfect shot. Dart detactched, let him run one more time. Third time we gaffed and pulled him in the boat. Biggest one we've caught so far on our Friday night trip so far. Fish weighed somewhere in the 300# range. What a beauty. We got back to the dock, filleted it up. It was a perfect pumpkin, meat as orange as a salmon. Great night for all those that came. Hopefully we'll have the same luck this week. There's still room

Nice fish guys.. How long was the fight? Depth of bait? Do you guys deploy jugs or floats, or is it all tip rods weighted differently?

It was the 150' bait on a squid. We use buoys for deploying the baits. You can see the bite better that way. The fight was only a little over a 1/2 hour, so it really suprised us that such a big fish in so short a time.

Right on Capt. Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you really put the screws to this one Heavy tackle? or was it one of those that just swam up and got suprised by a swift mate w/ a harpoon?
