Got to the ramp at 5 p.m. and met up with Capt.Tater, E-Money, and ALW. We saw uglyboat at the ramp. You guys are el crazy . Left there and headed out.
Me, E$, and Tater. I had my eyes closed ![]() ![]() Got setup around 6 I believe. Three balloons and one tip. The long jug creeps out a couple clicks of drag and E$ is on it. Drops back a little and feels the fish moving and starts reeling. He spits it though. Move the balloons around and Adam thinks there is a fish on the middle balloon So he starts crankin on that. Bait looks fine though. Drift for three more hours and here some reports of pups and lots of bites. I counted 10 boats out there Deciding it's time to reset at 8:30 and start to reel in. E$ is reeling the deep tip back up when the line just stops about 30ft from the weight. "I got one!" He only whacked it and is still around. ALW sends the flat line back and I reel in the short jug incase he is still around. Then ALW's reel starts peeling off line cause he is in free spool and he pushes the drag up and we are on! Now the fun starts. I'm getting rid of lines and somehow the fish gets wrapped up on the engine cowling. Then caught with the short jug and wrapped three times around the Hydro Glow. Get the Hydro untangled and the short jug, but we are still wrapped on the cowling. "There's another fish right next to the boat!!" ALW yells "That's mine!" The fish circles the boat ontop two times about 50yds out so you could see the LP circling ontop. Finally Tater gets the line out of the engine and we are free and the real fight begins. Thankfully the line was 80lb Momoi. ALW hands the rod to me so he can get the harness on. I bump the reel up to strike and hand it to Adam. Adam fights him for 40 minutes with some good coaching from Eric and boat handling from Keith. I saw the fish in the Hydro Glow so I knew it was a QUALITY fish. Get the windon to the tip with the swivel when we remember it is a long leader. The fish is still 10ft away. Eric has to pitch the line away as the fish runs. Get him back to the boat and I do possibly the worst harpoon in history of Swordfishing. In my defense, the fish turned sideways and the dart slide down the side of the fish and sunk in above his eye. Eric stuck him with the gaff and Keith sunk another one in it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Flop the fish on deck and he measures out at 59 1/2'' Take pics and store the gear and we are off. Clean the fish and I'm home by 12 Thanks for taking us Keith, had an awesome time . Thanks for coming Eric and Adam

Just an observation is the dart line wire tied to the harpoon :?: in the first pic it looks that way.

Thanks Guys. Besides the terrible harpoon shot that wound up being a good one since it killed the fish immediately  I had a probelm breaking the electrical tape (Actually didn't break it at all). Probably would of broke if I got a good solid shot, but I like the paint stick method best.
We definitely need to get together again and get a slob! |
