Default 11/9 Night Life sword/mako report.

After a few new upgrades geared towards swording, The Night Life was ready for battle. The crew was Mate1, quack quack, Andy, and myself. We cleared the inlet around 5:30 and headed out into a beautiful Near shore waves. About 7 off it picked up, and got worse until we hit the 50. I'd say it was 5-7 but it was more of a tight swell. Every so often you got a set that was big, or closer. But we kept going. With time, and seas, we only made it down to the 10. We set our drift and decided to chum in case a Mako was around A little ways into our drift the short float gets hit. Andy is on the rod and comes tight, but the hook pulled and were ready for the next. About 30min later the long float start clicking, I let him run then slam it past strike and come tight. The fish rips some line and its a slow battle from there. Finally I get harnessed and put it to him...or he put it to me, either way I now remember why I don't fight fish! Fought the fish for 15min and got it boat side. The fish swam right up to and somewhat under the boat. Andy thinks it was a Mako, I think it may have been but did not ge a positive ID, When Mate1 grabs the leader off he goes, with the hook still planted. We keep on drifting, looking for something with a bill, and about 30 min later Keith is on the 80 and says I just got hit...I get up and wait, Eric says fish is up REEEEL I look up and there she was, She jumped/twisted off one corner of the boat to the other, MAKKKKKKKOOOO Eric yells, We start scrambling, Keith finally gets tight and that was that. The leader was wrecked 3 feet from the end! Apparently he was hooked well That battle lasted 45 seconds but it was awesome! The fish jumped 10 feet high and 30 feet across, they said I missed one jump and it was higher! Chumming works! :roflmao: We get reset and keep drifting with only a little ways to go. The short jug clicks, and Andy says theres a fish (reminded me off the little boy who cried wolf :biglaugh: ) but this time he was right, click click clickkkkkk REEEEl Andy REEl, He gets tight and harnessed up. The fish put it to him pretty good. He had 20 lbs on the fish the whole fight. After about 30min the fish is boat side Mate1 hits him with a nice dart shot and in the boat he comes. He was only a little guy at 57'' but FATTTT, he has 2 dozen squid in him! We decided to call it at this point as we were off Boca and it was 10 oclock. Although the seas could have been better, it was a great night out,, Mr short fin Mako your next on the agenda istols:

Thanks guys.Barry and crew as the norm fish or no fish great night.

Barry was a little under with the jump height. It was closer to 15ft+ I saw the light 75ft behind the boat then that white underside shaking in the air.It jumped 3 or 4 times and was very cool thing to see.Mako's are sick Keith It was a nice size Mako 250lb+about 8ft or more.It would have been nice to stick it but he was hooked deep and the mono leader did not stand a chance. We had the poon and jap ball ready so a little closer and we would have Mako steaks  About 10 min later the moon came up and if the Mako was there it would have jumped over the moon.Good job to the crew and Andy did a great job on the rod.

that squalus must be considerably larger than any normal squalus found in these waters

Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
