May have to come up with something for this swviel hook.

I believe they're all owners. I'm sure you recognize the jobu on the far right.

One thing to watch for when using swiveled or ringed hooks!
Make sure that the ring itself is not made from too thin diameter wire.
A sharp bend in thick mono around a thin wire will result in breakage at a much lower poundage than what you would think. A chafe protecter might be needed.

For swording... A chafe protecter IS A MUST when going to any swivel no matter what size the ring. For most of the fish... no worries. But for a big fish in a long battle... it's cheap insurance.

I absolutely love the Owner Mean Offshore hook for live bait. It's the middle hook in the picture. It is one tough hook.

Tek, I liked the hook too for swording, thats until i pulled a few fish off and it was always that hook.......I did catch 2 or 3 fish on those hooks and each fish had a gash where the hook was pulling forward.......needless to say I dont use them for swording anymore.....not sure why they do this, but that has been my observation. Maybe it has to do with the shorter shank etc, but they cut/rip IMO.

I use the mustad 10/0 offset hooks, and found them to also pull inside the fish's mouth. Are the LP hooks any better? I am going to try a circle hook and stay with it. So I can see the difference. Any opinion.

When picking a circle hook.. try and match the gap size to the J hook gap that you like fishing. Don't go buy a 10/0 Circle cause you use a 10/0 J hook.

The Super Mutu 10/0 and 11/0 work nice for 50 class gear and the 11/0, 12/0 work nice for the 80's. Remember to beef up your rod holders cause you must fish heavy drag in the rod holder IMO so you get a solid hookset. If you only have 6lbs of drag while you are drifting... you will miss a lot of fish.

Until someone manufactures a hook that in the qty/price of LP hooks I am not switching. The old LP hooks were the bomb, I have to say that I do not like the new paint job or whatever it is that they got going on with the new hooks. I am thinking that they are made of a different material than the old hooks. We reshape all of the hooks regardless until it is how we like em. I actually just bent 150 hooks on Sunday afternoon and the old hooks bend wayyyyyy easier than the new hooks so that is maybe why they changed......but for all I know it is the same material. The key to the LP is sharpening them and modifying them. My only wish is that they would make a bigger hook or just make the gap a little bigger to grab a bigger chunk of meet.

I have to agree with Zach about those other hooks....particularly jojubu(sp?)..they are definitely not worth the money comparitively when there are hooks just as good for $.50 and some manual labor. I have used them in the past and had the same problem.

This is my question though.......is anybody aware of an offshore hook that is snellable. I am lookin for an 9/0 - 11/0 snellable hook.?????......they are a pain in the ass for me to make.

As pertaining to how to easily rig those swivel hooks in squid, for those of you that fish them. A while back we were messing with plastic mushroom snaps. Make a sliced where the hook come out, stick leader up through and out tip of the mantle, pull the hook into place and then just snap the snap through squid and the eye of the hook instead of sewing. It was really easy and would make more sense with a swiveled hook.

I really like the LP hooks, however I think the oversized barb is its downfall. I fish them regardless.. the price/quality is hard to beat.

I've done really well on with the Owners and prefer them over all other brands. That said, I've caught swords on LP, big trebles, non-offset mustad 7698, offset 7698, and 7731.

I also use 15ft 300lb leaders and enjoy taking wraps.

Please don't hate me.

I don't hate you. I use 30-35 foot leaders of 300 pound. I really enjoy taking wraps. There is definately a knack to it. I have been doing it for almost 8 years.

Would have liked to have needed wraps tonight. Just a pup released (used an owner hook) out of 3 bites.
