Default 10/19 Cherry Popped

After a bit of wrangling with my buddy he got his girlfriend to come around and we went for it last night. This was my first attempt.

We left out of Port Everglades at around 7:00 pm and did the E-Se run to the 50. Our first drop was actually more at the 52 since it was very crowded out there and I didn't want to interfere with anyone.

Dropped two 50's with squids and green lightsticks to 300' and 250'. Like I said this was my virgin trip and I'm going to keep things at a level I can control.

We held this drop for about 45 minutes, all the while watching the East horizon and listening to the wonderful jokes on the radio, oh and reports of lots of fish.

After a bit with no action I noticed a gap had appeard in the line of boats on the 50 and figured I would make a go for it to get more in line with everyone else.

At this time it was about 9:30.

Fist thing I did was to drop my line counter overboard so I had to estimate my drops. Sigh, another thing to go buy.

Taking another 45 mins for this drop, we decided ath 10:15 it was time to head home since we all had to work. Did I mention my buddies girlfriend came?

Pulled in the first 50 with no signs of activity, nibbles, slashes or otherwise.

I cranked up the engine to begine the charge home before pulling in the other 50.

Wouldn't you know it, as I am going around putting all the other stuff in order for the run, it gets hit.

Of course the hysteria hits the boat. All three of us and the dog are bouncing around hollaring at each other to get this and that and the other thing out of the way.

Finally, with everything in order and the belt on, I settle in to fight this fish.

It made a few decent runs after sitting on the top for the first five minutes and then went deep, and by deep I mean 300 - 400.

After about 30 minutes and the second time getting the wind on to the reel we get the fish to the boat.

It was hooked in the top of the mouth and tired but we measured it at 42" so we quickyly got it back in the water and took a few minutes to pull him through the water to revive him and watched him swim away.

So I can officially say I am doomed. I would be out there again tonight if I didn't think the wife would kill me.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with advice.

It's been an awesome experience.

Thank you Dad for getting me into fishing. I wish you were here to do it with me.

Ok so I'm batting 1000, 1 for 1. Does this mean my next ten trips will be skunked??????

Thanks all.

Looks like I'm am doomed.

My neice was pissed at me for not letting her go last night so now I will probably have to take her saturday nite.

Ah the things we do for the ones we love.

It's a sacrifice but for her happiness I will force myself to go out for swords again.

Fishalways. Who needs a line counter? Two foot pulls work fine and prevent you from dropping it too quickly. Not saying I never use the line counter. Don't worry too much about it. A sword doesn't really know the difference between 199 and 200.

My problem is I'm too impatient to count of two foot pulls.

And I can't tell the difference between 150 and 300.

Of course the pup didn't care how deep it was either :-k

Who cares!!

Lets go fishing!!

Nice work & congrats. I'm only half as good as you. Took two trips to get my first fish and it was a 55" keeper. I had some great coaching and support from E-money and FlatsfishB - guys truly wanting to help others learn for nothing in return. I'm sick/hooked now and buying gear . . .
