Default Capt. Mitch would be proud!! 10/13/06

We boated this 81" fish on 10/13/06 using a Tiagra 30W LRS. I promised Scuba Steve I would post a few pictures. My brother (Snookuda) and I made up the entire crew, luckly we brought Mr. Come-along.

Nice work! What kind of line was on that tiagra? How long to boat it?

Flatsfish B,

We have 80# JBH on the reel. Total fight time was under 1 hour (foul hooked).

The 83"s caught during the last tourney were 302 and 299. So that 81 is probably dang close to 285. On a 30w, that's great!

Awesome Fish! Alot of big fish have been caught lately! Awesome catch on the light tackle.
Is that a 21' Contender? It looks like my old boat.

ReelIntubaiter,

Yes, the boat is a 2003 21' Contender. My only complaint is that it is not 4' longer.

Uncle Buck,

The fish was actually hooked in the hard part of the tail during the fight. I rehooked it in the keel once we had it boatside.

It sure does look like it is. I've caught quite a few fish lately that have apparantly survived some pretty nasty wounds from being foul hooked and ripping off. There's no mistaking that the injuries (completely healed) were caused by hooks ripping through the flesh. I was always thinking that wounds like that would cause Mr. Swordie to become Mako bait for sure. Its good to know just how tough they are to survive those injuries.

Nice work on the fish.

once again, nice work. I was thinking you had some kind of spectra on that reel, that tiagra 30 is a nice reel!

We have about 900 yards of 80# Jerry Brown Hollow Core connected directly to a 200# windon.

I loved my 21 Contender. The main reason I upgraded by 8 Ft. was that I felt a little uneasy Swordfishing 15 miles offshore at night in a small boat. So I bought a bigger boat and loads of tackle simply in the search of Mr. Swordy. This is another example on the economic impact of recreational Swordfishing in South Florida. It's put a hurt in my pocket!
Nice catch.. again.

Good on you bro! I figured u had a nice one in the boat or u were have'n a dance party with all the flash bulbs going off. Glad to see a slob take'n in our backyard!

We headed off again saturday night and it got a lil' sloppy out there but went 2 for 3 and popped two cherries. I've had better ratios, but 2 for 6 friday and saturday night means they were chewing at least.

We got very lucky the hook never pulled from the tail. How it hooked, i have no idea. Here are a few more pics. The fight time was actually between 30-35 minutes on the tiagra 30W.
