Best spot for a hook on a big sword  You drowned them and they pull through the water easier then when hooked in the mouth.

We had no clue the fish was big until it popped up on the surface. Twenty minutes into the fight I was guessing we had a 100 pound fish foul hooked. The fish was straight down about 500 feet and we could steadly gain on the fish in low gear with about 22# of drag. When we got it to 300 feet the fight was over and we just reeled it up. As QQ predicted, there was almost no resistance on the line the last 300 feet.

We got very lucky with this fish, I hope we get to go 10 rounds with the next one.

I love the bloodbath picture! It proves you don't need an 80 wide to land a big fish. Just lots of 30 wides with big snap swivels. Canyon fishing at its finest.

Careful what you wish for. We went 7.5 hours on a 50 wide with the drag hammered the last hour.

BTW, my sons first fish was hooked in almost the identical spot. Circle hook no less.
