Glad to read that everyone else did well. We set up south of Hollywood on the 49 at 7pm. At 7:30 noticed the short balloon was acting funny, so started cranking. Up comes half a squid and the billed reason for acting funny right behind it. Couple of cranks on my pitch bait to bring it into the light, he circles in the light...circles in the light...circles in the light...I give it a twitch and he swats and eats it. A dropback and we're on! We put a newbie on the rod and after a few minutes, he can't fight the fish anymore so my brother takes over and succumbs to fatigue as well. Rodney the Rodholder takes over and after 45 minutes the swivel comes up, I take my wraps, and the gaff goes home. Taped out at 66'' and very fat. The initial hit came at 300ft with a blue LP and green lightstick.
We ran south and reset and at 11ish the far balloon started to move so we got to cranking and winched in a small pup which shot off when released. Never even took drag. Hit was again on a blue LP and green lightstick.
Put a chum bag in the water and probed with a sabiki for a while in hope the tinkers were back but not yet. Did have a small school of small dolphin up on the 50 and watched a tripletail eat a flyer.
Almost forgot, yes, the fish were reported. Haven't gotten confirmation back yet.
