Default Friday the 13th report

Finally broke the no fish streak. Brother caught a little 48 inch fish. It was a jumper, cleared at least 10 feet right next to the boat that was amazing to see. Hit 100 foot bait, blue squid with green flasher. Nothing in the stomach but our blue squid. Had the one line out with 200 pound cable on the 50 and it swallowed it. Small fish but needed some meat, and it was gut hooked. 15 minute fight at 20 pounds of drag. I think we have one picture as it was coming out of the water not sure but will post pictures on Monday. Nice night with calm seas and little wind, went 1-2 and one squid that looked like it got in a Sword fight

Someone was fighting one for many hours can not wait to hear how it ended, we were hooked up when they were at the end of the fight and lost track of what was going on.

Someone was hooked up for a little while and pulled hooks (hammered drag) and the other guy was on the fish for about 3 hours and it was between 300-350 lbs.

As for me... :???: \/

We took about a 165 lb fish that took the third bait as we were letting it out. Got re-setup by 8:30 and stuck it out until 1:45 without any action. Got back to the dock, knowing the fish had good color, cut 'em open to find it glowing orange. \/

Take pictures and clean, scrub, wash, etc. and come home to upload the pics only to find an empty slot in the memory cards place.

Oh well, still an incredible fish. Measured 65 inches.

Amzing story, initial crew of 3 was wore out, Another boat (TJ/ Emijess) drops off Keith & UB.
Later Tim (Headfirst) drops off Zack to dart the fish.

Team effort & NICE work.

We fished Friday the 13th and boated a 51'' in 30 seconds on an 80w....caveman style.

Had a similar sized fish (before) follow the tip rod up and Turtle hand fed a swordfish by jigging the leader and squid with his hand...swordie slashed it three separate times and kept swimming circles around it....finally, Turtle dropped it back and we saw swordie eat it and we hook up (could have boated this fish in 30 seconds, too, but it was a first-timer's fish so we let him run). I was on the fish while the angler was harnessing up and I pulled the hook and then the fish came back to eat it again and we were on again and we came unbuttoned again. The first miss was when the 200' tip rod (brand new Tiagra/Chaos combo) goes slack while letting it down and we see the light up top...fish dropped the bait.

1/3 - nice early bite.

Not exactly. I'll only take credit for the assist.

It was Mate1 and myself on the Emijess Last night. Set up about 8:15. Contacted our friends (POLAR & Capt. Mitch) out in a 19' Polar who hooked up at 8pm on a TLD50 with 50lb mono. We fished as normal, but kept in contact over the next 4 hours. We boated a 54", a 63", and released a 57".

Around midnight, we pulled our spread to go help out Polar and Mitch. Mate1 and myself transfered boats and I took the handle. It was everything I could do to recover line while only pulling low low 20s on the drag. (Didn't trust the light mono or the reel, didn't wanna lose their fish, and sure as hell didin't want to piss off Mitch by pushing the lever forward. )

45 minutes later, Headfirst shows up on-scene and transfers Beerman to the boat. Lots of boat manuvering didn't do much to get the fish up. After an hour, I gave the rod to Mate1. Same deal. Not much could be done with a big fish on low 20s drag. So, Keith quietly hammered the drag and the fish finally started rising. Mitch wasn't happy, but I think he was kinda relieved to know that the battle was nearing an end... one way or another.

We could see the death spirals happening and knew we had her beat. I leadered the beast up to the boat, Beerman secured a dart in 'er, and all 3 of us got a couple hands around the fish. (nice thing about a bay-boat is very low gunnels ) Rolled the fish in the boat. Game over. Thick 72"er. Total fight time: approx. 7 hours

Moral of the story:
Yes, a 200+lb sword CAN be caught on a TLD50 with 50# mono. But, it takes a LOT of time and effort. I'll stick with my Tiagra 50w's and 130# JBHC.

Congratulations to Polar, Mitch, and Polar Jr. They're the ones that put in the most time. I know Mate1, Beerman, and myself are honored to be part of that story. Credit also due to Emijess (my ride) and Headfirst, ALW, and JupiterSailfish on the Headfirst II who all hung around on-scene 'til the bitter... no, SWEET end! :thumleft: It was a late late night for all, and serveral are now in the marital doghouse.
