Met CaptTater, ALW, and JR.ANGLER1 at the ramp at 6:30 p.m. Loaded the boat and off we went about 6:45? Don't remember. Got to the flat calm inlet and began hauling mucho butt (which was cruise for that boat I was told ).
Got a couple miles off and I totally called it on getting rougher. Picked up to 3-5 and basically stayed that way all night. Got set up somewhere off Palm Beach I think cause I never looked at the GPS and got the spread done by 8:46p.m. Drifted for awhile and heard the Grand Slam boat has been hooked up for three hours. Decided to pick up and run deeper since all the boats out there were inside of us and weren't doing much. Reeled in the lines to find one slashed bait on the deep jug. The Grand Slam landed it and said it was around 200 maybe.
Got the lines reset and soon we heard the long balloon rod make a little nice. Watched the rod get heavier, but no drag came out. Saw that the jug was moving away fast, but the line didn't line up with the hug. Then realized that the jug came off and Paul started reeling. Didn't have the harness setup so Keith fought the fish out of the holder while Adam, Paul, and I reeled everything in. Couple minutes later we had the first Sword boatside. Fish came on the purple light.
Swordlight catches fish
Drifted a little more till 12:30 and reeled everything in and began the trek homeward bound. Thanks for taking us CaptTater, it was a really fun night on the 'nothing drift'. Had a fun time with JR1, ALW, and CaptTater. Finally learned the legend of the Tater.
Big thanks to NickC with the amazing squid like always
"Why do you use jugs?"
"Cause we like jugs!"
