Default Sword Report Tuesday 9-26

Tuesday’s weather report was looking good so I made a few calls and set up a trip on my wife’s uncle’s boat. The plan was to leave around 5:30 or 6:00 but due to an unforeseen event we ended up going out late . His son parked his truck in front of the boat and went on an errant with the only key available ](*,) . Had to wait for the misfit son to arrive and after the due :eye: uker: to the kid we loaded the boat at my house with all the equipment and bait and off we were. Arrived at the ramp around 8:00 pm and with a beautiful night and a nice sea we were at the grounds at 9:00 :bounce: . Set up the lines and the wait game started. We had four lines covering the different depths all of them with squids. Drifted north for a few hours with nothing happening other than the disco lights from the commercial guys flashing in the distance. Is 11:30 and the other two guys are already talking about calling quits. I insisted we wait a few more minutes as we are drifting over a fishy area. I suggest we eat our sandwiches because that always draws a strike . 11:45 we have just finish eating the dinner and as I am looking back at the jugs I see the 300’ go down under and up again. I told them we have a bite. I had insisted for one of them to take the rod if we had a bite but they didn’t want anything to do with it so I reluctantly oblige and assumed the responsibility. I jumped on the rod and as soon I put it on the ginball the line starts to peel off in a hurry. Fish on!! “get the harpoon, clear the lines” all hell brakes loose as I come tight on the fish and the battle begins. Had to go around the boat once and around the engines twice. The fish jumped twice close to the boat giving us a nice show and startling my companions who have never caught a sword before. After 20-25 minutes battle the leader is in sight and I have the boy take it and bright the fish to the boat. As I had instructed, his father is manning the harpoon, which he has never done before, and I tell him to stick the fish. Hi takes a shot and I am telling myself “Oh no he didn’t stick it in the mouth did he!” I thought for a moment there was a possibility that he may have cut the leader [-o< but it turns out he hit the fish in the head behind the eyes. Perfect head shot for a first timer :thumright: . We pull the fish in the boat and he measures up 58” and weighted 95# \/ . Called it a night since I had to go to work the next day. Back at home at 2:00 am. In bed at 4 and back to work at 7:00 am. Here are a few photos of the fish. Enjoy!

From right to left me and Eddy.

The Kid.

No they use line attached to bouys with a flashing light on top. I had never seen them before. We thought at the beggining that it was a coast guard raid on smugling or something, then realized it was the so called beeper bouys from comercial fisherman.
