JupSail... the swells are supposed to drop about 2 feet by Friday evening. So they should be in the 3-4ft range, with looooong wave period. So, just need to be careful in the inlets. After that, I doubt you'll even feel 'em while drifting in the stream. But, you may be able to dry off the props at full trottle!

What up Ghostrider ! I'll be out on N drift w Turtle, Tuna & Outfishin. I am probably going to steer clear of Jupiter as it gets NARLY on OG tide w large swell. Catch em up & let's hook up sometime ! One nite Beerman & I came in & it was WAY over-head and scary !!

Absolutely perfect out there last night, flat as a toilet bowl with nothing but giant long period swells. BUT.......Once again the viscious bait eating squid are back. Put out my usual spread of gear, and once out, ran it and saw no action. Put out 2 rods, sat for 20 minutes, we go ahead and pull the rods to go run the line again and we are horrified to see that the rod baits were almost completely gone. Said "Oh crap." Pulled each bouy to check baits and, same thing, all baits destroyed. Pull them all, rebait and redeploy. About the third one we released a 20 pound pup. How did it manage to beat the squids to the bait?? Ran the line back, and nothing once again. Put out the rods again and bam 10 minutes later, fish on. Five minutes later a 51 incher hits the deck. We run the line and start putting it all back in the boat to move. Once again most of the baits are completely hashed. Get to the last bouy and what do you know but we have a nice one on. Fight the fish for 15 minutes and a fat 60 incher hits the deck. We run back south about 6 miles and put out the whole spread again. Run it back and once again nothing. I wonder why?? We put out the rods once again and 5 minutes later the rod bounces a few times but the fish missed the hooks. Of course you can guess what happened to the other bait. Run the spread once again and still no action. Squids are no doubt having a party with my baits down there. Put the rods back out and sit for 10 minutes and whack. Once agian we have a swing and a miss. Unbelievably the other bait is untouched by the little dirtbags this time. By now its 4:30 and we have had it with feeding the squid all night. We run the line and start to pull the gear back in. Get to the fourth one and we had one on this one, but it pulled the hook before we got there. This time only 3/4 of the baits were destroyed. SO I would recommend to anyone heading out this weekend to check your baits with ridiculous frequency, as the squids seem to be really thick and hungry at the moment. I think we went through somewhere around 36 baits last night.

Look at the webcams from today... Friday should be about 2/3 to 1/2 the wave height that it was today.
Thanks for the info Ollie... May have to drag out a spinner and a squid jig this weekend. |

No, I think that summer and this chitty weather needs to go away and take the little dirts with it. Don't have a problem with them once the water cools off. There definitely seem to be more squid around this summer than in some of the previous ones. I'm just basing that on my observations of the ridiculous amount of bait damage I've had. Tinker time is not too far away.....

We got on a fish right at sunset. Fought for 1 hour with extreme drag. 150 pounder in the boat. Biggest fish for us in a while. No other bites after we reset.
We also hit the mother load of dolphin on the way out. Looked to be some kind of dingy floating with all kinds of life on it. We picked up 3 over 6lbs and the rest were throw backs. Some friends of ours from out of town want to try again tonight... maybe a redbull will help me get going. Tightlines ST |
