Default Former Lurker New sword

Just want to say hello to all. Have my home base in Hollywood and starting to get my rigs together for a new foray into Swordfishing. It seems like there is alot of activity out there right now.

I would be grateful of any advice anyone can give a newbie.

Looking forward to the darkness. Just need to get some lights on the boat and the baitwell.

A few questions. I have been reading that a number of people run 4 lines. 2 lines dropped at the boat and then 2 drifted out on ballons.

Having done my share of kite fishing with a 4 line set, my question is how do you keep the 4 lines clear of each other on the drift?

With the kite two are on the windward side with the drift and 2 on the leeward with the kite.

I have also heard a great deal of discrepancies between depth and locations for swords. Any reccomendations?

One last question. What do most people use for live bait?

Two tip rods, one at bow and one at stern.

The other two are drifting out on balloons, about 50-100 feet or so apart.

Stick to the 50 line if you are just starting out.. it ranges from 900-1200 feet in that area.

SQUID SQUID and SQUID. DOn't waste your time with live bait until you have put a few in the boat.

Good Luck.

Much obliged. Do I need to go the extra lenght for floating lights or just stick with lightsticks for now?

I usually fish 3 balloons and 2 tip rods, but 2 balloons is good to start out with. Try your far balloon 50-100ft deep and drop your other balloon 150-200. Keeping the lines at different depths will separate the balloons because the current moves slower/faster depending on the depth.

Thanks for the advice.

I just picked up another 50w on ebay.

That will give me two solid 50's and I'm still gonna borrow a couple of 50's.

It seems like most on here have their own method to the madness.
I'm going to try and take a bit from here and there and mix it with my own and see what happens.
