I set up last night at around 8:00 in very light wind conditions in seas that were less than 1 foot. I quickly checked the drift to track just east of 3 lumps. Current was running at 3.1 knots. and the set was between 10 to 14 degrees.
We were running with 4 sword rods and one rigged with a ballyhoo on top just in case a dolphin swims by. I generally use only squid, but tonight I replaced one real squid with a white rubber 10 inch squid rigged with a no. 10 hook. Drifting between 1080ft to 1350 we set 3 balloons at 100, 200, and 300. The tip rod with the artificial was being changed from 100-225 through out the evening. Fishing started off slowly, but I noticed that there was tons of bait in the water around the hydroglow. We had several flying fish around the boat as well. At about 8:45 we had we had the 50 wide at 300 ft. start to pull some drag. The balloon popped off and we let him swim for 10-15 seconds before putting the drag in strike. We didn't come tight on this one and we replaced the bait and set it out. Just as this bait was going down, the tip rod starts running off! The artificial was hit. Josh moved the drag to strike and the toad tamer was hooked up! I won't mention how small our tackle was so I won't be berated on the forum, but the fight was about 15 minutes and we had a 54 in. the boat! This was Josh's first sword after only 2 trips and he caught it on his own rod (the toad tamer rocks!). Just after we put the fish in the boat, the 200 ft. rod on a 50 started running off slowly. 10 second to strike and we were hooked up again. This time Jimmy, a first timer was on the rod. Got him in the harness and he solidly worked the fish to the boat. We thought that this was to be a bit larger, but actually we had him foul hooked in the side. Jimmy brought him to the boat and after looking at the damage to the side, we were forced to keep him (a 49 inch fish). I guess that it is time to switch to Circle Hooks. I was waiting for my first 200 lber, but I’m not sure that it's ever going to come. The night totals: 3 slashed 2 clickers 2 solid hook-ups with 2 reluctantly in the boat (calling them in this morning) PS. Very large squid in both fish and a few small jacks loaded with worms. Are worms usually this common? I can’t say that I have had too many with worms like this before. SleepWalker |

My bet is it was the pink Williamson. I have had great success with this artificial and so far the gulp has been non productive but I did finally get a bubble gum pink "gulp" and can't wait to get out there and try it. Maybe tomorrow night.

Sleepwalker: Go into the gallery and choose your beloved topic that you want the pic to be in. Then, towards the top right you can hit add picture, then hit browse. After you have posted it in the gallery you can click on the picture to look at it. Then right click the picture and go to properties, copy the url of the picture (including .jpg) and paste it between the img tags [img]url goes here[/img]
And then you look at it to make sure it came out correctly  :bounce: |

Here it goes... the squid. no light, tip rod, 125-200 w/ 6oz. weight. Hope this image works. I just bought another one of a different make. I guess that it is good to have a few around when coming back from Bimini late. At least it's good for a few drops and you have a chance at a sword. SleepWalker |
