Default E$ & Harpoon Steve 72" Sat eve

(First sword trip on my boat in a few months & renewed HMS online. $22 well spent !!)

Friday trip got scrapped & put together crew for Saturday.
E$, Dorado Steve & surfer chris from Samoa.
(was bummed Joe (chummin) could not make it.)

Got to the inlet & Chris said "you got the harness right".
I said, "knowing my luck we'll tie on to a good fish" tonite.

Setting out second jug, and swing an a miss (200' squid).

At 10:45, we are singing "disco duck" (no lie) and @ 11:00 we see disco heading our way.

Ruh ruh, Large sword has eaten short bait, and proceeded to do some circles under the boat (all lit up !!).

I put reel in free spool, unwrap tip rod & clear the engines.
I get tight, and fish does HUGE jump (my jaw dropped)
Only HARNESS on board is the trusty "play action" belt..

Hour and fifteen minutes later, fish is tough & NOT giving up.

U know the drill, gain 50, give back 75, as he heads back to thermocline. :???:

Finally get him up & Harpoon Steve brained him w dart.
What a great feeling to come in the inlet w 72" sword, cold beer, and good atitude.

Not sure what he would weigh, but guesing 175-190lbs is close due to GIRTH.

Called in my fish to NMFS & will get catch # Monday when they c/b

Here's a couple pics, have a good one.

Nice one.

We had a 56" last night on the outside up on the 26 08. It was my girlfriend's first. Felt good to put one in the boat after a dry streak. I should be out again when it is calm enough. I may have pictures of the fish later.

Way to go!

Man we lost a monster last night! Fish ate the far jug bait (big spanish mackeral) and slowly just swam up from 100ft to the boat. Probably 350lbs or so.

We proceeded to sink the hook in at full drag and then backed off to about 20 lbs at strike.

This fish kicked out ass for 2 hours and felt its head turn and hook pulled.

Bummer.

we'll be out next weekend for sure

Ted
