Default Thursday Friday Report

Thursday night was the second of the three: Went 1 for 2 with a 66" fish at 11:30. Not much action, there was a nice early bite on the 46-47 but we decided to stay put on the mid 48 slowly drifting out. The bite seemed to shut off after that until 11:30 when we got our fish. We had nothing to move to so we stayed, there weren't anymore fish called in when we were questioning moving so we figured we would stay put, it payed off with a 66" fish with a girth just over 41".

Friday night: Got setup with my Dad and I as well as my mom we brought along and had no action for a while heard a pup released just before dark followed by some others shortly. At about 10:15 the tip rod was being played with and we hooked up. The fish went down and shortly came up for a small jump and went back down. I got tied in the harness and it was on, we played the I gain he gains game for a little while as it stayed in his comfort zone which forced quite a lot of spool off. After a few minutes the fish took a screaming run and broke the TLD 50 from the rod. He pretty much stopped taking line immediately. My Dad was on the reel (rodless) with everyone working together to gain on the fish. After he tired about 25 minutes later we got to the weight and stuck him boatside. Once he was in the boat we saw he was tagged. It's from miami and doesn't have much more information, I'll get all info tomorrow on everything. We headed in shortly after and have had a fish to the boat the last three nights. We should be headed out tomorrow night as well to catch the bite before school starts up again.

Daisy: Why would I tell you where I was?? That would only help you in the tourney tonight. I'll be out again tonight for the quadruple header

For some reason the pic of last night won't upload into the gallery.

We didn't have much action, only the one fish that jumped and gave us quite a story to tell. Uploading pics of reel now

I think someone at Shimano needs to get BITCH slapped for this type of reel failure!!!! WTF?? I've seen it happen wwwwaaaaayyyyyy to many times to not make me believe its not a manufacturing defect. I know its only graphite but its not like these reels are being spooled with chain and being used to pull your boat out of the water. YES, I know that spooling the reel with a mucher higher test braid and then trying to max it out could be an excuse. HOWEVER!!!! I've seen them bust off like this with lighter mono and nowwhere near the kind of pressure on the reel that you would expect to cause this type of failure. So it would be nice if one of the good folks at Shimano could inform everyone that, "Yes, indeed, its a piece of shit reel, so fish at your own risk."

It broke when the fish took a screaming run at strike drag which was 17 lbs. Thursday we had the drag at about 75% for the 66" and it was fine.

     Jr. just saved a freezer full of sword !!!!!!!!!!

Ready to rest my eyes for a few hours before I get up to chase wahoo and hear a beeping noise. I had no idea what it was so I got up and checked it out. Followed the beeping towards the garage where I knew exactly what it was. The temp alarm was going off. Woke my Dad and got half of it back in the kitchen freezer. Hit quick freeze and we should be okay. Good thing I always stay up later than I should.

Heres the pic of the fish we got Friday night, had a very long sword on it and meat orange instead of pink. Partially pumpkin? hb Also tastes amazing (better than regular)
