Well fishing on the big boat was nice.NOAA as usual was wrong it was blowing 20 to 25 out of the East when we left and only got down to 10 to 15.Not the 5 to 10 less then 2.We had 3 bites one hook up with a nice fish.TJ was on the rod and did a great job on the fish.We fought it about 10 to 15min then the line broke  very very bad.We had a rod that had a bad Bimini in it and found out the hard way.It was not my rod because when we hooked up we cleared my rod and it got put in a rod holder up the side of the boat. The empty rod holder because it would spin with a rod in it.Well after we break off I start looking to put my rod back down and it is missing  We looked around the boat and could not find it then I notice the bad holder sitting side ways and I knew what happen  Oh well it happens and I could have just as easily made that mistake my self. This boat is now 2 sword trips and 1 tuna trip with a rod lost every trip  We all had a great time even with a few other mishaps that occurred. Some guys on our boat are sure they saw a full moon last night.

We were out there also..... it sure was windy when we got left the inlet.. thought about calling it off.
We fished the triple lumps pretty hard and put a 53 incher in the boat. We had a nice fish on for about 25 minutes that we never saw, the line broke clean.. must of had a flaw somewhere. Headed in at 11:30, had to be back at work here in the morning. |

QQ,
that sucks on the rod, thought you had two safety lines on each rod? ST, good job getting one in the boat. Looks like we will be out Saturday night, but going to work the reef for some snappers, sharks, and whatever else will keep. |

I think QQ had 2 safety lines on every rod that he was using. Not the rod that's just sitting there without anything in the water.
QQ: What kind of rod holders are these that are losing all these rods ??

Yeah Jr some one unclipped the safety line to clear the rod and forgot to reclip it in.No bait in the water just the weight of the rod and the waves spun the holder
They reg good quality clamp on holders. We got 3 set up not to spin but that one could not be fixed. Thats why we were not using it.

With age comes wisdom  Getting mad or upset would not make the rod jump back in the boat.
I have other set ups and will use what I have for now. Most of the guy's I fish with have there own rods also. But I will say this for the last 4 or 5 trips those rods of mine have been hot.The rod that I lost was even the rod that broke Nick's curse  He was very sad at it's loss  Every one loved those rods and they are very sweet. Anyone looking for new rods should stop by and see Andy and Ken at Xtream rods. They build a TRULY CUSTOM ROD! No cheap labor or blanks or component's on there rods. There phone is 561-296-7637 Give them a call or stop by the shop. You will be impressed with there work.

Thanks Jim
I was going to change it again but I do not want to start a riot  Losing the rod sucked but you and I know stuff happens and how you deal with it is what separates the men from the boy's.[not talking about you Jr] If any one was a older but good condition tld50w let me know

QQ: Honestly, do you think that the TLD 50 is adequate to go out there with in the middle of the winter when the slobs move through ??
(all other opinions are more then welcome) :-k :???:

Put it this way 1000's of giant fish Tuna, swords,Marlin have been caught on reel's with leather drags and linen line.I am sure YOU have been to the IGFA museum and seen the pic's of all the old timers. Not to mention all the fish they got on the old Penn senators. So a modern reel like the TLD 50w with it's drag will work just fine
A Tiagra is a better tougher reel then the TLD but on 99.9% of fish it will work.

I think we are just going to wait into a problem arises
Like when it's that winter night in 3-5' seas and the 400 lber comes along  I think my only fear would be the drag system. I look at it this way, there is enough line to go to the bottom and a ways back. So I don't think capacity should be to much of a problem if you can stay on top of the fish. :-k
