The SAIL club is going to try and deploy PSAT tags tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 18th.
The PumpkinEater will be out there and we would like to invite anyone who wants to participate. Starting at sundown the boat will be approximately on the 50/50 depending on the drift. If you think you have a good fish on and you want to pass it off for tagging purposes call over the radio on CH 72. If you have any questions call me on my cell 954-562-0051. Thanks and good luck! |

Congratulations to Silvio, Pumpkineater, and their crew including
NOAA scientists, for tagging two swordfish last night with pop-up satellite tags. Both of you, in particular, have put in a lot of work in this effort. Now we'll have to wait and see what happens to the tagged fish, maybe somebody from this forum will catch one of the tagged fish or we'll see data coming in three months from now when the tags surface. I was out on Gary's Finding Nemo with Dragon Bait and the redneck. As reel life said, we lost a fish on transfer that we caught after arriving late and we didn't even get the second bait out when 120' squid went off and it was probably a 70 to 80 lb fish at least. Another pup tangled line for a few minutes later that night. No other action. Lots of life in the ocean last night. cheers, arthur |

So what size fish was tagged :?: :?:
If it was only 70-80 pounds why did I get bashed for offering a fish I would normally release :?: :?: Thought the tags we only meant for large healthy breaders :!: If you all have changed your minds please let us all know what you really want to tag so we can help, I am a bit confused :???: Do you want large fish or just any fish that is hooked right that will survive at this point :?: :?: |

guess and we were going to let the scientists decide if the fish was good to tag or not. now that the pressure is off with two fish tagged, I'm pretty sure that we will be waiting for a larger fish for the last tag. cheers, arthur |

For the remaining tag, Arthur is correct, we (including the scientists and the Club) are targeting a larger fish. We've been out there over the last 2 months several times and have been unsuccessful due to weather conditions and the slow bite. We decided that the decision on whether or not to tag a smaller fish would be on a case by case basis. Now that two fish have been successfully tagged (and we do not have all the information yet from the scientists) we can focus on a much larger fish. This project is meant to be a positive one, not a negative one. There was a lot of joking/clowning around over the radio on Tuesdnay night and its very hard to tell whether or not someone is serious. You also have to take in to account your location, such as distance from the tag boat. That is why we announce our location so those who want to participate can try to plan on fishing somewhere in the vicinity of the tag boat. Now I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, especially the two scientists and Silvio Case/P&S Yacht services for catching the first fish that was tagged. I also want to thank Arthur and his crew for their constant support and continued efforts. We will keep you posted as to future dates. Thanks again to all that helped make this happen, including the support of the SAIL Club. Steve |

Steve,
All is good, I do not think it was anyone from the team, congrates on getting it accomplished. I have been fishless the last three trips, but one time when we were headed out and I offered to help if we caught a short that was in good shape, and someone came back and said you guys did not want a called fish but a large healthy fish. No worries you guys did a great thing and I can not wait to hear or read what you guys find out. Just wish I could have taken part in the experience. Hopefully I will be out there the next time you guys are out and I will be able to provide you a slob to stick a tag on. Great Job :thumleft: Catching |
