Default Charleston, SC Report from last Sat. Night

Headed out past all the Megadock boats on Saturday afternoon... ocean was flat calm, but had to slow from the wake of all the boats returning... pretty sight with all the boats lined up coming back from the 226. Planned to look for the hard edge... it had dissipated by the afternoon. Found an ultra warm eddy 8 miles offshore of the 226... pulled baits for a bit and caught a dolphin and pulled the baits away from a few peanuts. Found a few basking beauties... lots of dolphins and a few pilot whales... fresh boards everywhere... some boat must have dumped some weight...

Decided to keep running out in the direction of the bump to see if the hard edge had pushed offshore. Not the case... decided to fish the Bump. Found a series of major upwellings and started our drift to the South and in the middle of the most significant ones. The upwellings took the water from slick calm to a 3 foot chop. Put out the hydroglow 91 miles from home and and then baits. Moon was a 1/4 and heading down fast. Just before the moon dropped Striker Tips yells out "the 150 balloon is moving!" about thirteen times in 3 seconds. It was actually rushing the boat.... I reel to get tight... reel, reel, reel... Midgie decides to put his 18th budweiser down after I finally get tight... Fish pulls hard for about 20 yards and stop. I suspect a shark... line goes limp... reel, reel, reel... I can't get tight... glow stick is approaching the boat at Mach2... Swordie swims literally under the rod and misses the boat by inches... Tips yells and states the obvious before midgie has time to grab his beer...

Get the fish to the boat about 10 minutes later... looks like it is foul hooked, midgie unleashes a coonass holler and slings him over... after much discussion of midgie's cajun math, fish measures up and photos are taken... moon pie is eaten... hook was not in the swordie... the lasso held again... that is the second sword that I have brought to the boat that has been a victim of the chinese finger cuffs... i may consider saving money on hooks... Squid was still perfect. Called our buddies on the bloodline and they ran 25 miles to come join us... hoped that it was going to be a busy night. Chad jumped off a nice fish and our only other bite was a shark attack... drifted a total of 50 miles at 3.8-4.2 mph overnight...

fished inshore of the 380 in the morning and caught some dolphins, one nice hoo and cudas. headed in a little after 9am. Fun night... next time the crew needs more sleep the night before...

the swords are out there and are very happy to be sauted with butter, olive oil, lemon, salt, pepper, and a little cinnamon. Served with a mayo, soy, lea and perrins, texas pete cocktail, and lemon sauce... tasty morsels...

I posted that on another site, so that's why all of it may not make sense to you boys...

what is the other site you folks reference?? fs.com??

i appreciate the info you folks share... i wish that...

1. there were as many people interested in swording in charleston
2. we could just run a few miles from the beach and drift like you boys

It is amazing how much fish eat! I caught 2 Dolphin - a 38# Cow and a 52# Bull. The Cow had 12 ballyhoo and the Bull had 13 ballyhoo, all neatly stacked head first, in their gullets. The Cow struck a trolled skirted ballyhoo and the Bull hit a 5" feather at the boat. I wonder how much more they would have eaten before I interrupted them?

I saw a 50+ Bull that was the length of a 30# fish that had a forked tongue. :???: The tongue was a 5lb dolphin it ate and the tail was just inside the mouth  The head of the smaller fin was at the bull's azz  ans it hit a trolled bally. It was still trying to eat and had no room in it's stomach.
