We left out of Ft. Pierce last night, first time I used my thru-hull transom lights. At 8:45 I slowly cranked up my tip rod and a 200# plus fish rises up under it and stayed in the light for over 5 minutes. Didn't have a live bait so we pitched her a squid and a rigged mack. She tickled them both but never ate. Durring this fiasco the 150' balloon tips over and we are hooked up. As we are fighting this fish another fish pops up in the light about 150#'s. Pitch it a squid, takes a good look, swims around the boat. Got the hooked fish to the boat and swimming with him is the 200# fish again swimming around in the light. 300' balloon rolls over, eats the mackerel, tight then gone. We get the fish to the boat and tag it, nice clean release, fish was about 80-90 #'s. We fished about another half hour and a couple of nasty squalls rolled in so we headed in early. The transom lights worked awesome. Didn't have any other light out, just the thru-hulls on, and that's the most fish I've ever had behind the boat in a night. I guess they work, can't wait to try them again!

Scott,
that's the most fish I've ever had behind the boat in a night. That's awesome, Nice job on the release. You have probably had that many fish around for years but just could not see them.   Any chance of sticking the free swimmer? |

Broadbill- Sounds like a great night (except the squalls). How far of a run is it out of Ft. Pierce to the swordfishing grounds?

I just asked the question. Don't include me in the heinous act of legally taking three Swords in one night.

I have to eat crow. I did a search on if it is legal to stick a free swimmer.
Low and behold it brought me back to this site. I was wrong. Not that I ever have or ever will do something like that myself. Tunaman 81 you are correct it is illegal. I think someone should stick me, no wait that would be illegal too. O irat: O irat:

He could have definitely been stuck, probably even free gaffed with a 4' gaff. Awesome fish, came up on top once and stuck it's bill and dorsal out of the water about 5' from the boat.
Tunaman we usually run south about 35 miles from Ft. Pierce, not too bad of a run. Flounder Pounder, it was a last minute call watching the weather. Plus, I don't really like you!

Tuna Devil: I was not including you in the heinous act of taking three Swords in one night
Tunaman81: I was just sharing a story, not trying to brag about what someone else did. Personally, I think it would be stupid[but still awesome] to come home with 3 fish. Like I have said before, what is the point of it.
