Default a swordie caught in 185 feet of water off boca

this link is a column worte by Steve Waters from the sun-sentinel. i worte him an email asking if he made a mistake and meant sailfish. this was his response.....
Hi Loren,
Yes, that really was a swordfish. The guy who caught it is legit and
he knows what he's talking about. I was also impressed that he caught
it during the day, rather than at night. There have been a few daytime
swords caught this year. It'd be great if it became a regular thing.
Good fishing!

Ray Jimenez of Coral Springs caught and released a :?: 7-foot swordfish :?: Sunday, his first, that he hooked at 11:15 a.m. while fishing on his flats skiff Fly-Bye in 185 feet off Boca Raton. He landed the swordfish, which ate a live pilchard, after a :?: 15-minute fight using 20-pound conventional tackle :?: . Jimenez, Dave Moss of Coral Springs and Keith Binder of Fort Lauderdale also caught 15 kingfish 8-15 pounds -- they released all but two -- and Binder released a sailfish in 110 feet off Boca.

Something smells fishy.

Well... that's mostly true. It was actually a 45-minute fight. He was rigged for kingfish, using 20lb mainline and a 40lb leader. The fish hit below the surface, so they didn't know what they had until it jumped. They also did not land it. The frayed line broke at the boat. The boat (a flats boat) isn't HMS-permitted, so they couldn't have legally kept the fish anyway. But still, I consider it a "catch".

I believe this story to be absolutely true, since I overheard a different vessel on the VHF that day talking about a sword on the surface near Boca in the early afternooon. Very possibly the same fish. But when they got close enough to pitch a bait, it went under.

Ray knows his stuff and told me right after it happend. He had the fish up to the leader in a short time, then it dogged him.

Hate it when ya'll call BS when you don't know the facts

I believe it.. there have been several seen and hooked inshore in teh past couple of years...

We had one take a kite bait about 8 years ago before swordfishing started to catch on.. Was spooled in about 2 minutes on 20lb test.
