Best Catch: When I look at a Commercial Fishing Vessel I see 300 million Americans and you only see the Crew

in our area 1000 pounds per night has always been the benchmark for a good or bad day of fishing. from 1978 to about 1982 the average for the 10% of fisherman who catch 90% of the fish was about 2000 pounds per night using less than 200 hooks. after that it seemed that every plumber or contractor who had an interest in fishing bought a LL vessel and catch rates declined or i should say were divided into many more fish holds.

the grand banks back in the 80's offered about 4 times those figures and has rebounded to atleast equal that now or possibly better.

most of the pain that LL'ers have felt thru the years has come from depressed market prices, not bad fishing.

hey qq,

arm is out of the brace, but still a bit weak. went offshore with purple fever last week, first trip in 3 months. rod goes off and guess who is standing next to it, i hooked the fish and took about 20 winds on the reel before i remembered that i am still a cripple. after that i became the tag stick and gaff holder. think i'll give it another month or so before i push it too far.

boat is coming along, basically everything below deck is fabricated, deck will be installed next week. probably 4 weeks to finish up including awgrip and another week to fit the new power.

looking for a good used trailer keep your eyes open for me, 31-35 ft boat. 12,000 to 15,000 lbs. tri-axle. brakes not necessary.

QQ,

Wow! That's an overwhelming pic! Makes me wonder how the supply can hold out if that goes on consistently. Unfortunately, I was no threat to the population last week.

Hate I missed you when I was down last week. Was good to talk to you though. Look, I've got to go back down there in a few weeks to move the boat farther South. I'll give you a call when I get my ducks in a row. If we get a window, and our schedules allow it, you bring the squid and you've got a ride!!!
