Default 50"er last night (Sat 13th) 1 for 1

Got a late start with lines in about 8:30. Only saw one other boat out there, we were off Ft. Laud. It was kinda sloppy but not bad, and got better as the night went on. At 10:30 the 300' clicked once, then twice paused then a steady pull. We were on. Matt was harnessed up and took the rod as the rest of us cleared the short lines and deck. You know, the constant yelling "don't give her any slack" and the flyer was made ready for the moment. There was some give and take for about 30 min. and then she stayed at the 150' mark for 10 min. Matt inched her up out of her comfort zone and once she hit 100' she decided to come have a look at the boat. Bad decision, it was all over. Matt got his first swordy and the first boated on the "Mushmout," Brian's spanking new 23 Bluewater, and Ryan's first time to see a swordy. Blood on the deck and another passenger was added. She measured out at 50" and fat. Nice little swordy, and steaks for all the crew. And the drinking proceeded.
Nightfighters Swordfish guide, with another boat full of happy swordfishermen.

Left to right: Ryan, Brian, Matt

Hooked her up just outside of the 50 line. 300' squid bait. It had 7 goggle eyes in the stomach, one small squid, no tinkers.
Started the drift off N. Laud, and got the hook-up off Deerfield/Pompano.

good going ken. 5 pups out of 6 fish? you fishin inside the 55 or what? (kidding) ur one of the few - we've been doing well lately also, but cant get out in our little boat on most nights.

note on bait - been watching alot of posts on live bait - ive never used anything but squid - been skunked only once this year our of a dozen or so trips.

rollin you caught fish 11 out of 12 trips! Not slashed baits or bites every trip bit had a sword in or next to the boat  where are you fishing with that kind of production and have you been out in the last month?

Skunked means no fish in the boat, released or not. On the night we got skunked, we had 1 slashed bait and one short run pulled hook over about 12 hours of fishing. Twice we've had two fish, twice fish over 150#, once just over 200#. Havent been out since we got the big girl early this month, (no room in the freezer!)

We usually fish right out of Pt. Everglades, run SE to the 50 and set up with all you guys. The thing is, we usually are the last boat out there when we get hit. Almost every else will usually head to the dock after midnight if its a slow bite, we stay until we get a keeper or dawn, whichever comes first. irat:

QQ, I counted and its really more like 9 trips, my bad. Still, 8 for 9 trips with at least one fish comin home with us isnt too bad!

Rollin thats great fishing well above avg.The stay till dawn trip is hard for most people to do.It is like 2 trips worth of fishing if you stay out as long as you do.But in truth thats the way to do it. If I did not have kids or a wife I could pull that off on Fri or Sat night but my little alarm clocks have me up at 7am no matter what  Good fishing keep it up.

Thanks QQ. We go in early too when the bite is slow, as long as we have a swordy in the boat. But our crew is a bunch of single guys, and most of us are self employed so the dusk til dawn trip is usually not a problem. We figure that its a long way from the dock, so its better to stick it out long as we can instead of making 2 trips.
