From the other forum:
From Big D during take a soldier fishing put on by Capt Mark of Capt Marks chum: I picked up a crew of four guys from the San Jacinto at Port Everglades on Thurs. and brought them to the boat. These guys were a blast to have onboard. I had already provisioned the boat with 3 twelve packs of beer, soda, water, and half a dozen Publix hoagies. We got underway and the guys all agreed that there was not enough beer onboard to last the day so we stopped at the Sands and took on three more twelve packs and wre on our way We ran out 15 miles which is where we found the fish on Wed. and set out the spread. Well fishing was kinda slow, but these guys didn't care a bit. They were just so happy to be out on a boat having fun, drinking beer, and telling jokes, my cheeks were hurting from all the laughing we were doing They were starting to get pretty wild and decided to jump overboard 15 miles out and swim around I'm telling you, these guys were having some FUN Well after thier swim and clowning around it was back to fishing. Like I said, fishing was slow and I was looking for any sign of fish I could find. Lo and behold, what do I see, Two swordfish finning on the surface. The guys were ecstatic to say the least. We get the double header and get them in the boat, to find out they were both too small. So after a few pics they were released. By this time it was getting late and I had dinner reservations for my daughter's birthday at 7, so we headed in. The guy had a blast and were so appreciative that they were able to get out and do some fishing. And I had a great time having them onboard. It just amazes me that they drank every beer but two!!! and were still very much functional, ![]() ![]()

hb What did you get them to bite on ???
My Dad and I ran 32 miles off today (Sunday) and found absolutely nothing. We came back in a little bit and found a weedline and current edge and "lo and behold" there was a dead swordfish pup about 40 pounds floating upside down.

oh boy. here we go again.
im not gonna start up on these guys, we all know that there was some stupid activity on that boat that day. im gonna chalk it up to alcohol. anyway, thanks for putting this up Ken. its really cool to know that these fish can be caught during the day! and at 15 miles out - that what, like the 53-54?

thats funny, R.
im not gonna start anything either, but if i WAS gonna, i might say something about the gaff hole in the back of the fish on the right. was that necessary? and i might have said, i dont think your supposed to hold a sword like that, bent back at an angle for a better pic! but like i said, im not gonna strart anything, so i also wont mention that i doubt seriously that both those pups survived after being out of the water for that long and being held at that angle for 5 different guys to get a pic. but as someone said last time we went through this, (which i wont repeat, cause i dont wanna start anything), a dead pup is s small price to pay for a good picture! seriously though, good job finding the info and posting it for us, Ken. it really is cool that they can be caught finning during the day here. im gonna keep a better eye out and a squid rig handy while mahi fishing from now on!

Yeah, I noticed the gaff shot on the one fish too.
Just try and keep them out of the water no longer than 30 minutes before you release them. If they stay out longer they can get sun burn. Make sure to take the time to wrap the the one in a towel before you hand it over to your other buddy for a couple of shots. Great stuff Ken! I wish I was strong enough to control green fish for pics like that. Or good enough to pitch bait two tailers at the same time and boat em both.
