Default Another fun night on the 52 line

Well we decided to fish again between the 52 and 53 since we did good previously.

This time the action wasn't as solid, but we went 2 for 2 by mid night. Both fish were shorts in the 45 inch range.

We did have 2 hooks cut off, sharks?

We are going to try this depth a good dozen times before we make any conclusions.

Tightlines

ST I hope you are keeping track of the other factors.Such as wind, tide, moon, etc. This will give a better record of fish movements east and west of the 50.

Yes. Scored three fish in 45 minutes on the 54 one night when the fleet was getting shut out. Once you start to hear all the BS on the radio, it's a good time to re-evaluate your location.

Yea I'm keeping track, but I'm hoping that there is no correlation to any of that, and that the fish are just holding a bit better in shallower.

however, I am really anxious to fish this coming full moon on the 53 line area, as I never get good fish near the 50 on the full. I have a good feeling that the fish will be chopping in shallower and on the deeper baits.

Seas are too rough until the weekend.

There is one nice drop off that I marked near the 26.03. Drops prettty nice and then comes up quick. Not sure if this is on a chart, but I would be interested to know if there is more drop offs like this if I ride the drift out past the port...

For now i have been starting around the 25.58 to 26.04.

In SPRINGTIME specifically you can fish all the way in to 600 feet. I have this info from some old longliners, as they told me they used to set in this shallow starting in the middle of March and on into the early part of May. Why the fish are in this shallow is anyones guess. I would have to think it has something to do with what they are feeding on. They do always seem to be loaded with squid when you catch them in shallow at this time of year. A few weeks back, and I have this from a good source, that upwards of 30+ fish were seen on the surface (by various charterboats) in a weeks time, INSIDE of 400 feet. It definitely won't hurt to fish outside of the box at this time of year.
