Default report 4-5-06

Went out last night with one of my brother’s friend’s last minute. Ten minutes into run the no GPS to be found on boat, keep running get out to 1300ft and the depth finder stops working OH well start setting lines at 8:00, while putting second line out first line gets nailed line is smoken off the real for a good 2-3 minutes hooks pulled. Start resetting lines, dropping second line in it was nailed on the drop hooks pulled again, minutes later another rod goes off, hooks pulled again, re-rig start setting lines one gets whacked, and slashed no fish. Still can’t seem to get more than a couple lines in the water at one time with out one of them getting hit. Again line one starts creeping out, light tight fish on, battle on, hour later one measuring 55 inches in the boat, headed in at 10:30 it was getting rough.

Do not know where we were No GPS, By the stars south of the moon, north of Orion aircraft flying over head last known water depth was 1300 ft

Sounds like you were the hot boat last night. From that depth you sounded a little east of the 50?

fish were eating good : in belly three 14 inch tinkers, one still had skin could have used it for bait again, 4 squid, two bars jacks, and something that could have been a blue runner or goggle eye.

I forgot to yell at you For safety reasons you should always bring a back up gps.A small hand unit is so cheap and could save your life :!: What if the worst happen how could you tell any one your position. That is a big area you were in and you are a small target in a big search area.So go get a spare gps to keep in a dry bag

QQ,

Yes I know, it was last minute, what would you have done? Go back to the dock, drive home in Rush hour traffic, be back at the ramp by 8:00 :???: I was supposed to go sharking on another boat and it was cancelled, and called my bro so see if wanted to throw back a beer and he said he was going swording with one of his buddies and asked me to go. All I had on me was my tackle box, and change of clothes, since the boat I was going on for shark was decked out with equipment, that was all I needed.
It was my first time on this guys rig I had no idea what I was getting into and I was not going to be the one say lets turn around when the conditions going out were perfect.

I understand but If you have your tackle box and change of clothes you could have had a small gps in your tackle box.I keep mine in my truck so it is always ready to go with me.If I am going on someones boat I have never been on I bring my Epirp.I am not yelling but stuff happens and as far as safety there is no excuses.I now bring a small med kit with me also. They are compact and fit in my sword bag.We have been lucky not to have had a really bad thing happen to any one yet but that just means we are do.I have lost friends and family to the sea and it is a issue with me.So sorry for the tone but just be care full

NF

There was a little bit of skill involved, and a few beers as well

Good Luck ST was invited to go again tonight but do not want to be divorced or locked out of the house when I get back. Going Saturday if it stays 2-4.
