Well, while a bunch of folks were swilling green beer, Polar, Polar Jr, Sword Buddha and I headed out to the 50 to do a little cherry hunting. P Jr. had never caught a billfish, Polar hasn't had a sword on his boat and Buddha had a new 30 two-speed in need of breaking in.
Set up just outside of Flatsfish B and sat back to wait for the bite. Spreadsheet called for 8:10. So I'm looking over the side hoping to see Mr. Sword swim through the light and notice the 50' LP light deciding to go for a swim.Fish on. 8:01, sheet was off by 9 minutes. From there it was a classic sword fight, big runs, worked back to the boat, see the boat, takes off again. After Polar Jr. gives it his all and whomps the fish, he graciously turned the rod over to Buddha to close the deal. Now we're fishing out of a 19' CC so no flyer and no dart. Get the fish to the boat, I grab his bill, Polar pops a kingfish gaff in her and over the side she comes. Taped out at 61" back at the dock. Cherry, cherry, cherry!! ![]() Wind shifted during the fight and had a LOOOOOONNNGGGG ride home. Thanks to TJ for running point for us. We were all beat to death by the time we cleared the inlet. |

Yo B... there will be some calmer nights out there as the summer approaches. We'll get our chance to prove the little boats can git'r-dun!
