I was going to stay out of this but come on, who're you trying to kid? Yes, there are some newbies here but there are also a number of folks that pee saltwater. The only way to spend years on the water and NOT lose a nice fish at the boat is to never hook a nice fish in the first place.

At any rate, I'll come clean. I've lost two fat swords to my shear stupidty, one to not paying attention and a couple more that just happened. My all time best dumbass move was trolling off Boynton and had a blue/white CH Flame out. Spotted a hellacious rip and dragged the lure right down the edge. WHAM, it gets clobbered but no hook up. Spin around and same thing, lure gets creamed, no hook up. Did it twice more, same results.

Decide to pull the lure in and take a peek at it. Felt like a complete schmo when I realized the hook guards were still on it. ](*,) Have never put hook guards on again.

So, please don't try and tell us you've never lost a nice fish. You're either lying to us or yourself.

What I said in the posts are this....I miss fish on the strike, yes, I don't lose fish at the boat....Probley just jinxed the cr@p out of myself now....probley fight every fish to the freaking boat only to have them pulloff......
as stated before, I don't fish, everyone else does.....I am however going to take to the rod if a mako comes up and wants to play....only fish that I personaly want to catch....I'm 0/3 on them...lost all three on the strike....never on for more than 5 seconds...

CJ, how can you loose a MAKO on the strike, it wasn't like they slash baits or do they?
As per all my years (15+) of offshore experience, Sharks are the easiest to hook up. Letem eat and your ON !!!! Seems to me that you need to go to anglin school with your 0 for 3 shark ratio.

This thread was originally made by ME to report and share our experience with all our swordfishing friends and get some positive feedback.
Once again, Props to MaKoJoEy, Danny "Pecho" and myself on a hell of a battle. Well getem again soon boyz, get READY !!!!

The law of averages do not allow you to have never lost a fish at the boat.
That is unless you don't catch much, you know a career average of like 5 for 5 or somthing.
I don't mean to bust balls, but lets be realistic.
Plus if your not loosing fish your not fishing hard enough. [-X

Me and Mako's don't get along.....
First Mako......Came up and Ate a AJ that was on the rod.....enough said......fast hit took off rear end......came back fast sucked up ass end to head...AJ was maybe 35 lbs...mako in the 250 range...
second Mako....Hogsbreath SKA Tourny.....came up and smoked a Blue runner on a TLD with 20 main with 50/50lbs windon with #4 wire..standard king rig.....not a chance.....200 yard burn off in a sec. Skied high behind us and about 50 other SKA's.....maybe 150 to 175 lbs...
Third Mako......6500 baitrunner fishing kings at anchor.....put rod in rod holder....line comes back at me at lightning speed.....hands full with clients fish....YT....Line gets tight and Mr. Mako sky's right off transon spraying us with splash..maybe 100 to 125.....skinny looking fish....scary as hell....bout $hit myself.....I have a bug for a mako..I'll get one myself one of these years.....
Everyone says the same thing....I just have been lucky....I don't pull off fish, lose fish at the boat, end game.....
I know the statement sounds to good to be true.....just hope it keeps up....

Take it from a Long Island Mako fisherman. Using the flyer is easy as long as you practice, the harpoon is easy too and requires practice -- I don't see any difference.

You can call me a ***** -- I am what I eat! [/img]
