Default Saturday 2-18-2006 1/1 if you can call it one

It was our second trip this year the first trip we lost our first fish due to major tackle failure.Pictures in the gallery to follow. We went 0/1 but the trip was very good therapy for me having lost my wife to Cystic Fibrosis(respiratory failure)on December 18,2005 and not being to the grounds since May of last year.I was looking forward to getting out anyway. That trip was on January 24 and The tip rod got smoked and it was a good solid hook-up the rod doubled over and bang it snapped at the reel never got it out of the holder not a small sword for sure we tried for a few minutes with the reel in hand to fight the fish but the line snapped in a few minutes. This trip was a lot slower except for the NE wind that was blowing some slop at us and Im glad that at 11 the winds died off enough to get comfortable and drift a few good drifts. We wanted to try inside first around 1000' no luck there. We fished four rods 75',150',250' and 450'.I have been using squid with a different rig that I want to share here when I have more time.It takes less than 1 minute to rig these squid and I have 75% hook-ups an no pulled hooks. We drifted 12 miles the first set no hits.I reel in the shallow rod untouched the 250 rod feels heavy tangle maybe?I get it to the surface and see the smallest sword Ive ever seen 10lbs it looks like its pretty dead. This fish was so small it never even took drag I get it back in the water.Anyone ever have this happen it was weird!I thought it was a sword that had been sharked but not the case.We drifted two more drifts each a little deeper and called it at 1:30 at the triple lumps. The ride in was way too cold for my likes, kind of like the swordfishing for us lately.[/img]

Sorry to hear about your wife. Swordfishing is the best therapy ever. Good job getting out there. I'd love to see pictures of this baby fish.

Sounds like you are using the pin rig.
